UK War Pension- Tax moan

Hi All,

 

Just saw the accountant today for last year's tax return. I have a bill to pay, which I anticipated, but my poor husband who does not work and and lives off his UK works and state pension has a $1000 tax bill.

What made it worse it that one of his pensions is a War Pension-which in the UK would be tax free, while here in Australia it is not.

Yet Australian war pensions are tax free. It just does not seem right to me!

 

OK that is my moan for today- back to work now.

All income here - is taxed as Income.

 

It is different here some thing better/ some worse- a plus point here - NO inheritance tax!

You are an absolute genius!!!!!!.

I attached the page you sent me to our accountant. She now accepts that the War Pension is a disability pension and is therefore not taxable.

Tax bill before $1000, bill now $132.

We are so, so pleased and I have to say- it is marvellous how much fabulous information there is to be had on this site.
