Where my daughter works they had 300 applicants for their receptionist vacancy, (was filled by a girl from Coventry)

Hi Nobby can I ask the company name? My OH is accounts, wages, GST etc and has been applying for all sorts of office based roles to get in the door. We're interested on how to stand out from the rest lol. Cheers

The job is filled but the girl doing the interviewing did phone interviews with 8 that the bosses requirements were fulfilled, then 4 in for a interview, to keep it short.... the one in the jeans never got it, the 60 year old was experienced but not bubbly enough, the one that was too young and liked the nightclubs all weekend might not turn up on a Monday, the one that was bubbly, experienced, answered the questions with the answers they wanted to hear, liked working independently but also loved team work, extra yard etc etc and lived very close by was the lucky applicant.

Agree - last job I recruited for had about 150 applicants. Over 100 didn't meet basic criteria and a further 20 were still way under qualified/not suitable/were obviously just sending the same letter and CV to any and every job advertised.

Of the 150 I skimmed 30 resumes and probably read 15 in depth and called 8 people for a phone screening before selecting for interviews. I don't think big numbers are unusual.
