i was just thinking about this this morning - my 5yr old son was telling me how on christmas day he was going to throw snowballs and i was trying to explain that it doesnt snow here and this is partly why we came to australia, he was getting upset at the prospect of no snow but that lasted all of 5 mins. i thought about it and i do miss the snow and the dark at night with all the lights, it gets you feeling that it is christmas and you dont get that feeling as much here. though after feeling a bit sad about that, my sadness quite like my sons lasted all of about 5 mins ! i do not miss going out in the miserable freezing cold dragging 2 kids with me telling them to hurry up as im freezing and ive just stood in a puddle and my feet are wet. remember when there is a dusting of snow it looks so pretty but when it melts it is dirty horrible slush so all in all i wouldnt swap australia for scotland. of course i miss my family that goes without saying but i cannot wait for christmas morning when my kids open their presents and they can spend all day outside riding their new bike and scooter ! fantastic.
ps i would love a christmas cd though (have had to do a lot of singing to the kids as have no cd!) i had a couple of them but they are in the container on their way over and i do miss listening to them - if anyone knows where i can buy a cheap one let me know

What lovely people there are about. I post on here I would really like a copy of slades merry xmas and the lovely Rob burns one onto a cd for me. Quick meet and chat in the car park and I have my cd. There are some really lovely people about.
Yeah Nick, you're right, there are some cracking people on this site.
I miss Bread Sauce, walking up the street at 6.00pm adn seeing the Christmas lights twinkling in people's windows. I know you can see them twinkling here at night time but by the time it is dark enough to see them properly, I am too tired to focus or care, if I am honest!
I miss the really really funny and tacky displays of lights that at least someone on your street thought was either high class or really funny. The Aussies are starting to get into their lights (and God help me, so is my OH, :eekxmas:) but it is not like the UK where if it was still long enough, it got illuminated with a puffy looking Snowman.:laughxmas:
I miss walking along the street, soaking wet, walking into a cafe to have a hot chocolate and having my glasses steam up. Sad, but yes I do miss it. I don't think my glasses have steamed up once since I got here - no rude comments please.
I miss the Christmas sales which start in October.
I miss the sense of anticipation. School finished a while ago and it was the Summer hols plus it finished so early in december, that you couldn't get excited about Christmas and do all the Christmassey stuff you used to.
Oh Nativity Plays!!!! I miss going to the kids school for the Nativity performance, I loved that, how could I forget it? Only the Churches do them here, not the schools, so I am off to volunteer to assist so I can sit and weep at teatowel clad shepherds, and nightie/ petticoat laden angels, with coat hanger halos. I love every second.
Other than that, I love the sitting on a beach at sunset with a turkey sandwich. I like being able to go out and enjoy the day. I like seeing friends here. I like the bloody huge tree we bought we last year in an attempt to feel Christmassey, which needs 2 weeks and a UBD all its own in order to put it up, and which I am not p*ssed enough to even take out of the box so I can go through all that sh*t again!
Christmas! Bah Humbug!!!!!
