throwing caution to the wind and moving to Adelaide

Greetings!
Those who listened to our dreams of moving to Australia smiled and nodded vacantly, how sad, they thought, that these two people were bonkers.
When they realised that we were serious, and that we may actually succeed, they looked at us with fear and awe.
Now that we are going for sure, they all clamor for us to write this blog so that they can live vicariously through us!
The dreams of moving to australia from Portland, Oregon took almost three years and thousands of dollars to come to fruition.
We prevailed, all thanks to the migration experts and the rainman-like dedication of my husband, Tad, who poured through truckloads of paperwork.
We closed down both of our businesses, packed up our entire house into a shipping container, (couldn’t have slipped in a toothpick more) said goodbye to our friends and family, and poof!
Old life scrubbed clean, and new one blooming in its place!
Some people buy a classic car, some get a little”extra” on the side. Us? Nope, we move around to the other side of the world and start over.
The second half of our lives frought with bugs that can kill you, people with cool accents, no house, and no job. What more can one ask for?
Why?
Adventure, a clean slate, new friends, warm weather, opening up new and amazing opportunities for our four gorgeous teenage daughters, just… newness.
Also, nobody burns the Australian flag!!
My husband,Tad, is a builder/remodeler, he has created the most beautiful homes out of some of the ugliest abodes, there is nothing he can’t fix or build! Sometimes I ask him, why do you know that?!
I am a hairstylist/colorspecialist, ie hairdresser. I became a “hairdresser” 21 years ago so that I would have a job anywhere in the world. Who knew?! I didn’t realise I was as prophetic as all that!
I can’t deny that there is one other reason that’s not so insignificant. Our crazy Aussie friend, Chris said this to us, Australians work to live, they do not live to work…. we were enlightened! I guess crazy Chris is not that crazy after all!!
My husband and I do not want to be americans in Australia, we want to try to be like them as much as possible, and we know it won’t all be roses but hey! where’s the fun in that?
Yesterday, my husband came out of the kitchen shaking and sweating and ordered me to tell him we were doing the right thing, I hugged him and told him that we were going to be just fine, and when he finally smiled, I told him to put his big boy pants on and pack!
He left today. I cried.
I will have three weeks to contemplate this huge move of ours. I love my husband for paving the way for us!
Thanks to our girls for holding back the tears until we were gone. You guys rock!
Well, this is the beginning, like so many on this site, I know I’m not alone, being able to share experiances with you helps tremendously, thanks for that! You rock too!
I will write periodically to keep my peeps abreast of how things go, I’ll even promise to describe in great detail the huge, deadly bugs we encounter, along with our jobs (or lack of which), house (or lack of which), and the such.
To my girls, here’s a quote, look it up.
“He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich”
Peace!
Sunny caster
