      2nd languages in schools

      Hi
Could anyone tell me what kids learn as a second language in Adelaide. There'd be little point in learning French, German and Spanish so do they learn Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, etc and does this start in infants or junior?
      Thanks

I seem to bump into a lot of people who speak a little Mandarin so maybe this is the one.

Actually I think Spanish is an up and coming language and one of the most useful worldwide to learn.

My friend says her 6YO has been learning Japanese for a year and he knows one word: pokemon!), when my DS was in school here he learned Indonesian... think all schools vary. But the South Australian curriculum framework requires they do LOTE (language other than English) from Reception. I think the extent to which schools take LOTE seriously varies greatly. Much of it is cultural stuff with the younger ones.
