Just wondering if like over here pre school children get funding for day care (like my 3yr old gets 5 mornings a week paid for by the government)
Is it the same in Adelaide? We are on a 175 PR

Hi
We are also on a 175 PR. I could be wrong but my understanding is that they dont get any provision until a term before they turn 4! My little one was also on 5 sessions a week in the UK. Now we are here in Adelaide he will not be eligible to any sessions until next July (term before he turns 4) when he will do 1 morning a week. Then after he is 4 I think it is either 3 or 4 mornings a week.
So, its quite a change for him (and probably quite confusing) to have gone from being at pre school/nursery to nothing! Also my options for working are diminished quite considerably at the moment. We looked at private nurseries just so he could keep going to "something" and to give me a chance to work one or two days a week but its SOOOOO expensive you wouldnt believe. I think there are some sort of Tax credits available for working families but apparently we are not eligible for them even PR!
Perhaps someone else has some other ideas....??

Hi, my youngest has justed started pre-entry, she turns four in April. She does one half day a week for this term then will get 5 sessions a week starting next term. It is my understanding that the preschool she goes to offers 2 full days and one half day a week. The fees are not subsidised and will cost us $150 a term![]()

That $150 a term is the subsidised fee. That is $15 a week, it helps to pay for consumables. If it wasn't subsidised it would be more like $3-400 a week. The government funding pays for the director and teacher's salaries and the building.

My youngest is 4 and started kindy last week. In Scotland he had 5 afternoon sessions a week but here he is getting 2 full days and one half day, which is quite nice - DH and I got to go out for a lovely child free lunch together!. We got the invoice for term 1 fees today - $75

From four, they have some Kindy provision - not sure exactly the number as our youngest had four sessions (two days) and an 'extra' one. We paid about $80 per term (four terms, here). Childcare can be discounted by a percentage which is dependent on income and the number kids - not sure if there are any other factors.
Cheers,

Just one other thing, the local Kindies seem to have stopped the pre term entry - Onkaparinga Council.

Another thing which will change is that from 2014 Therewill be one ebntry date to SA state primary schools. If your child is 5 by the end of April, then admission to school will be at the start of term 1. All other children will have to wait til the following year. I'm sure the state kindies will still be funded for only the 4 terms preceding school admission, so you may find your child can not start until they are 4 1/2.
