Options for 16 year old girl?
Hi, We are just waiting for our visa, had medicals in January 2008.
Moving out with 2 daughters 12 and 16. My 16 year old will have done GCSEs before we get there. She really wants to do dance, drama and art. Does anyone know whether the schools have a sixth form or if she would go to college. I've looked up some info, unis seem to do high qualification courses, and the TAFE colleges don't seem to have much choice in arts and they are all quite high fees. Are there any colleges similar to UK?
We are really confused with her options!! She would be starting sixth form at her school in sept, we need to offer some hope!
Thanks.

Before going to uni she would need to do her SACE. This is done in yrs11 &12 of high school, so look for a school that specialises in the "arts" I know AB Pk high used to, not sure about now, will ask my daughter later and post again.
Libby might know when she comes on I am sure she might be able to point you in the right direction.

Hi, we were in the same position when we arrived with our 16 year old son, he had done his GCSE's in the summer and then had a long break off and has now started at Blackwood High School in year 11 doing two years of SACE. So far he is finding it a bit easier than his old school in the UK, but is settling in and enjoying it. They do far more subjects at SACE level than they would at A level, and study a subject for one semester, which is 6 months, before changing subjects again. I think Blackwood does do performing arts, have a look at the Blackwood High School website, and good luck, took Adam a while to settle but he is fine now. Gina

If you are going to be looking at settling in the North East suburbs then Golden Grove High School might be for you.

they have a performing arts bit that might be of interest.

Hi
you can also get accreditation for her GCSE's and miss out year 11, she can then do only year 12 in order to complete school here and get the required SACE for further education. ;)

In yrs 11&12 at Ab Pk there are different types of drama choices, movie making and dance. Try looking on the school website. You will find it by searching the dept of edu website.

You take the GCS results to the school they will be going to, they photocopy them and send them off to SSABSA, who then turn them into SACE points, It tool a long time for my sons to come through...but he went back to yr 11 anyway,so it wasnt needed.
