Emergency hospital treatment is covered by the reciprocal agreement. In fact, most health things are covered on the public system by the reciprocal agreement.

Things that aren't covered are private treatment, dental, physio and things like that. You can either buy hospital and extras cover or just extras cover. The extras are the things like dental and optical. Hospital cover pays a % of private hospital treatment. We only took extras as we are happy with the public system for hospital treatment. Our family of 5 pays around $55 per month for extras cover with mutual community.

We also pay $1 per week for ambulance cover (as this is not covered by anything and costs approx $250 for a callout?) as part of our policy.

I'm not convinced we are getting the best deal as we still only get 60% of the cost paid out, but to be honest I can't be bothered to shop around any more!!

Hi

We came over on this visa initially and as Jo says you are mostly covered by the reciprocal agreement. My daughter was very sick on night and we took her to Flinders hospital where she was admitted and I stayed with her in a private room, the level of care and attention was fantastic and it was FREE we didnt pay anything at all.

We didnt have any other insurance Except Ambulance cover, however it run out and we didnt renew as we were going permanent and therefore wanted Health cover which this is included BUT then I had to call one out and it cost us $750 !!! so make sure you take out ambulance cover!!!

Thanks

Kim
