........are there any physiotherapists on here? If so can I be cheeky and ask what the best treatment is for Plantar Faschiitus?

I'm in so much pain it's not for laughter!

Have you been to a doctor? My cousin had this and he has a very high pain threshold - ouch! He rested it and then slowly increased the amount of walking.

Have some pain killers, as well.

Best of luck,

Cooler

I have it and the thing i would most recommend is a supportive shoe,if you wear flip flops no support,i wear a fit flop type shoe which has good supportin the sole. When its really bad ice packs, rest and inflammatories are the best.

Feel for you.Hope it eases soon.

Orthotic inserts in all of your shoes are the way to go. You can get them made specially ($$$) if it's really bad. I started with hard inserts from Boots (about £25) and now just use the Scholl gel inserts (about £10) and they work just fine. You can also chuck them in the washing mahcine to keep them clean which is really handy. Birkenstocks have them built in so they're fab too, Rockport shoes are also good and oddly, Ipenema flipflops I find very comfortable even through there is no moulding in them, they are nice and soft and provide reasonable cushing for my feet.

I was in such bad pain, knees, hips, heels the whole lot. Now I still get the odd twinge but no-whre near as bad. One slightly odd tip from years of experience - sitting with your legs up on the table/footrest etc is really bad and makes mine worse!

Good luck!

hi i can say i know how you feel..coz im a sufferer too!...its really bad esp when ur on yer feet all day... i agree with others here, a good foot insole sometime do the trick but if yours is worst , u may need to see a podiatrist--saw one in uk before same he just advise a good foot insoles, a gp once advised me if it gets worst a steroid injection may help but its only for short time...if mine really gets bad i usually have a foot massage..anit-inflammatories will help too...plantar fasciitis will usually affect ur back, hips, the ball of ur foot as its somewhat interconnects....u can try rolling your feet on a golf ball, it may relieve the pain/pressure. cold compress may helo relieve the pain too...its really a supportive measure but as i say if you want to take the route of having steroids injection its entirely up to u..hope this helps...

My friend had this problem and she went to her GP. After different treatments that didn't work he gave her that injection in the foot. It is TERRIBLy painful and she was screaming that the roof lifted off, but it was the only thing that worked. HOpefully you will find an alternative that works.

one way or another you'll probably end up being referrred for orthotic inserts to go in your shoes.

I'd go straight to person who makes them...try Rob Varney or Paul Wade, if they are still in business.

Otherwise use the Yellow Pages to look for Podiatrists and /or Orthotic Footwear specialists.

Don't bother with orthotics straight off the shelf ...yours will need a groove cut into them by hand to take pressure off the tendon.

In the event you also need extra depth shoes to accommodate the orthotics (-you probably won't, in the first instance) try Comfort Fit in Melbourne Street North Adelaide.

Let me know how you get on.

Over the years I have suffered this awful affliction. The only thing that worked for me was cortisone injections. I had two in the same heel. It is not so painful if you have a guided injection. The GP will send you for scans first so that it can be put in the correct place. The first time I had injections it lasted a number of years. I needed them done again ha year ago & so far I am still pain free.

Regarding orthotics I have had loads of problems. It took me 7yrs to connect a stabbing pain in the groin with orthotics made at the podiatrist. When the PF condition returned I bought shoes at the chemist with removable orthotics in them. The cortisone had fixed the heel pain but for a year I suffered pain in my instep which went away after I removed the orthotics. I spent 8yrs in unnecessary pain due to those things!
