Do standard british lampshades fit australian lights?

Yes they do, in our house we don't have the the wire that hangs down with the fitting on the end, the fitting for the bulb is flush against the roof (hard to explain).

So we have bought from Ikea and Bunnings a fitting that gives you the length to attach your shade to.

 

I also brought a new Next light fitting and we wired it to the electrics all ok.

 

Bulbs are called Globes here.
