errrrr, not a wine drinker myself but had heard that at the time you do it you can use either club soda or white wine to neutralise it, not sure now that its set and you've tried cleaning it so had a quick squiz on the internet and there is a product called wine away but it appears to be an american product so not sure how easily you could get a hold of it. Hope someone else has more useful ideas for you.

You can buy wine away from most of the wineries too!! Hubby is a carpet layer and swears by WD40 to remove stains, but be careful and test it in a small area first

Did the salt thing and it almost worked but it was a dried in stain, so I tried the napisan and the stain has gone. Stupid idea to put cream carpet in a rental, we have runners and rugs everywhere and still managed to spill wine on a small patch of uncovered carpet...nightmare
