Nomoreengland- I agree with you that being Adelaide a smaller capital is likely to have less choice. However. I know S****horpe and East Yorkshire fairly well as I used to work as a sales manager all over Yorks.

People reading on here can take comfort in knowing that this comparison is completely off the mark (well-Tyke should be able to knowledgeably comment being a Yorkshireman)

It really is impossible to make straight comparisons- very upmarket North Adelaide is a bit like Hampstead or Highgate in London- beaches so near the city and hills a shot away on the other side make it such an unusual offering

Norwood feels very European (reminds me of northern Italy or Seville in Spain). It has a lot of old-world charm. And as nightlife goes, it is not Ibiza, but more like Milan/Edinburgh/Brighton.

      The Hills feel like Canada/Aberdeenshire.

If one is an Ibiza type of course Adelaide would not suit. But then, would you say that Milan is a backwater?

Horses for courses. You are right to express your opinion.

BTW- a good friend (Aussie born and bred & very well travelled and learned) from Brisbane fell in love with Adelaide when she decided to check it out- she was not impressed with our choice of SA when we had told her and admitted it is an unfortunate stereotype. Now she is coming again to visit!

Ok - I think maybe we have a wind up merchant here? When you say the hills feel like Canada/Aberdeenshire Im not sure this comment has been said with much thought. For a start, Canada is TOTALLY different from Aberdeenshire AND The hills is TOTALLY different from them both.

Norwood is OK but lets not get too carried away and give people the wrong impression who havent ever been to Adelaide. Norwood has a few cafes and bars which are average and is nothing like northern Italy.

The nightlife is NOTHING like Edinburgh or Milan. Again, the night life in Edinburgh is totally differnet from Milan and Adelaide is nothing like either.

Your remarks dont help any 18 year olds who are about to move to Adelaide - they will be very confused when they arrive expecting Canada, Milan, Northern Italy (not sure they will be too dissapointed that the hills is nothing like Aberdennshire.

Amusing post though but please tell me you are joking.

I think you need to learn how to spell Edinburgh. FYI I am Italian and and born in northern Italy and married to a Scot.

18 yrs olds here will be fine- no need for the OP to worry.

Thank you for helping the OP get a feel for what to expect and then educate their son on what to expect.

I's just like to say that everyone's view of a place is different it all depends on what your looking for and just leave it at that shall we?!?! :v_SPIN:

Well spotted - I did make a spelling error, not that this really matters.

Just becasue you were born in Northern Italy and go out with a Scot, doesn't mean that your comments are true. Its a bit of a coincidence how you happen to be from near S****horpe (a Yorkshireman) AND you are from Northern Italy AND your wife is a Scot. Even if this is a coincidence what you are saying is misleading information for 18 year olds looking to come here.

Fair enough if you want to come on forums and make false comments for a laugh but its not really funny misleading young adults who are coming over to set up there lives here.

Also, yes I have lived in another city in oz ( I presume you are trying to asses whether im qualified to voice my opinion). As for Barrow or S****horpe - fortunatley not, but I know people who do/have. Im not saying Adelaide is the same as these places but there are distinct simularities such as job prospects for young people, mentalities/attitudes etc.

Also, I fail to see how using smileys will move any of these conversations any further forward?
Also our two perfectly happy with life, thank you, sons have managed to find great jobs with great prospects. Our eldest will be starting his second year working for the Premier's Office on an apprenticeship and our youngest is a fire and safety engineer. And that's on my 475 visa too!

We are qualified to comment as our family model matches that of the original poster.

I think Nomoreengland if you read the OP's original couple of posts, you will see that they have not just an older teenager, but younger children too, so they are looking for a place that suits everyone as much as possible.

I am sure the OP can read the replies and make their own decision, and for that obviously a cross-section of views is good.

As a fellow Chelmsfordian with teenage children, I can honestly say I would far rather be bringing up my children here than in Brisbane. I think overall Adelaide is a great place to live in, but I wouldn't want to come on holiday here. Brisbane on the other hand is a great place for a holiday, but I wouldn't want to live there!

As I said though, everyone has different views and different requirements, so what suits one may not suit another. If I lived next door to you for instance, NME, then perhaps I wouldn't have such a high opinion of Adelaide...

I can only be nice to one person each day....today is NOT your turn...and tomorrow isn't looking too hopeful either.

I am starting to find Nomoreengland's posts offensive and quite opinionated.

I do come from Yorkshire and I am widely travelled.
Comparisons to the towns / cities you mention are just not correct.
