      Utility Bills?....

      Hello,

Just wanted to get a an idea on how we go about setting up utility bills when we arrive in our new rental (still to do) in Jan?
What are the main bills to set up/pay out? Who are the main suppliers? Is it a case of shopping around for the best deals like in the UK?
We are a family of 3 (19mth old toddler), if anyone wouldnt mind giving us a rough estimate on what we are likely to pay out each month it would be much appreciated.

not very i know, but it depends on what you use and how often, people on here have mega leccie bills, yet mines on average $200 a quarter, some on here have $800+, same with gas etc etc

      It's best to shop around.
You can get discounts from True energy and AGL but you have to ask for them!

Electricity can cost around $300 to $900 for a 3 month period...depends upon heating and cooling systems...driers and whether your home is energy efficient. It is possible to pay $300 but a reverse cycle left on 24 hours a day like a central heating system will blow your bills skywards!
Water is around $100 per month per property.
Gas varies...depending upon usage for hot water and heating in winter...maybe around $130 per month.

      hope that this helps.

When we rented for a year in Marryatville last year, our typical bill for 3 months is around 100 dolar each for electricity and gas. It's for 4 of us. two adults and two children 10 and 14. During winter months, we did not have any heating on. but apart from that, I thought we were nearly the same as others, in using teve, internet, hot water, and everything else. So, on average, we pay around 2-3 dolar a day to use gas and electricity. Of course, the bigger your house, and the more apparatus you have, you will pay more.

cost will vary a lot depending on the type of property you're in and type of heating/hotwater system you have.

To set things up, most suppliers have a website you can go to, register with them, pick your product and arrange a connection date. It can take up to a couple of weeks to sort out a connection date for some things (internet is often bad like that), so get onto it as soon as you sign your rental contract, even if you're not mmoving in for a couple of weeks.
