ADSL not available - Any advice on wireless / mobile broadband?

Hi guys,

We are currently living Flagstaff Hill are unable to get ADSL with iiNet due being too far for the exchange. Apparently we are 7kms from the exchange, which is too far.

Before we look at the wireless / mobile broadband option, we are going to try Telstra to see if we can get broadband with them. According to iiNet we will have the same problems trying to get ADSL i.e. being too far from the exchange.

If we did decide to go with mobile / wireless broadband, are there any services providers you guys could recommend? Is the Skype quality still good with mobile / wireless broadband? Can you have a home network work multiple devices with mobile / wireless broadband?

Look forward to hearing from you guys.

Cheers,

Robbie

We use Adam WiMAX.

It works well for us ,fairly good speeds and easy for Skype and so on.

I download all my TV on it as well.

The support team is local ,used them a few times and had a few laughs.

Be aware that as well was a Modem this system uses another inline box called an Alverion - which you may have to pay for.

Big thumbs up for this service if you cannot connect directly. Here is tis............

thanks guys! I called adam internet and their wimax offering is equivalent to ADSL 2. We previously only had ADSL 1, so i think the wimax will be great.

considering you dont need a telephone line, its actually very well priced.. probs a bit cheaper actually.

with adam wimix, they do need to install a antennae / dish on your roof so the start up costs are $150.

If that helps to check for options

we have mobile broadband $39 for 12gb good quality when Skype but we were going over every month as an hour of Skype works out at well over a gb

we have now gone with everynet 100gb $40 and so far been very smooth and no problems

Have you tried the Internode checker https://secure2.internode.on.net/nodetools/coverage-checker/

We are in Aberfoyle Park, my daughter in Flagstaff Hill and we both get ADSL2 without any problems, although I was told before I moved in that it was not possible.

This checker shows ADSL2 available on Cormandel Valley Xchange, to several companies, but not iinet

We use Adam, but have had nothing but problems with it since having it, been about 5 weeks now with terrible connection and it keeps cutting out, everyone has different experiences think we are just gonna have to lump it with what we have really, have had telstra come out 4 times and a specialist once, still nothing, ringing them again later to get this damn thing sorted !! x
