Hi, we have a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Li1818 Laptop and my son has droppped it and has cracked the screen. We bought it a year ago in the UK.

Does anyone know anywhere we we can get a replacement for this. I have tried some local computer shops and they dont do them.

Please can you help.

Thanks,

Lynn

Almost certainly cheaper to claim on your household insurance & get a new laptop. Any IT place would be able to transfer data & programs from your old one to the new.

or, you could avoid making a claim on your homeowners by purchasing one off of gumtree or ebay and having someone put it together for you...hubs has done it, but it can take some time to find one...and sometimes you have to buy an entire junked laptop to get it.

look up Fujitsu Siemens telephone number on the internet or email them asking if they keep replacement screens for your type of computer. It costs less this way but sometimes it is not worth paying the replacement.

...New laptop screens are always beyond economic repair....Si

Not any more. 10 years ago I would have agreed but now the processor and other components can be just as expensive to replace, especially on higher end laptops. For lower spec laptops (Intel Celeron or AMD Sempron processors) then yes; stick it on ebay and move on.

The problem in this case is the manufacturer; FSC don't sell their (non-business) laptops over here so getting a compatible screen could well be hard work (looking into now). This fact also means that buying a dead one (ebay etc) will require paying shipping costs from the US or Europe.
