An option maybe?careers in the care sector

Hi,i would just like again to say to members who are finding it difficult to secure Employment in their chosen profession/skill that maybe they might consider a change of career here in Adelaide,as i eventually did after 6 months of p..sing in the wind, joining agencies, only to never hear from them again. Finally, when a return to the UK was becoming almost a desirable option compared to my increasingly frustrating and futile search for work i decided to do a course in Cert 3 Aged Care and Disability. This has proved to be my salvation!8 weeks later, and on my placement to finalise my certificate,i was offered a position, which is wonderful and rewarding work, with decent pay,and in an industry where there actually does appear to be work in Adelaide. There are also specialised Agencies that can offer work to suit family commitments.I am happy now and work with several Staff who have also chosen this direction above their Trade/profession,and are happy with the result.Just thought it may be worth considering for members who are finding the jobs market as frustrating as i did 2 months ago.All the best to you all who are looking for work.

This is very useful info. My husband is thinking of a total career change and has always wanted to work with people with learning disablities. Does anyone know if this type of work is also available?

      Hi

I'm relieved to find somewhere where I can ask others questions :-).

I've been assessed by AASW but don't meet the requirements for a Social Worker but I do as a Welfare Worker and am therefore considering the sponsorship visa. What is the current employment demand like for jobs in the Welfare Worker fields?

At the moment I'm torn between SA or Queensland.

      Any advice is welcome. Thanks!

      Julie
