Hi,

Can anyone throw any light on what the job situation in Engineering in SA. I'm a trained Mechanical Engineer but have spent most of my time lately Fabricating for a major concrete production in the UK. Is there a particular area where the industry is abundant or is it widespread. I can do pneumatics, hydraulics, heavy plant installation, de-comissioning welding and turning. Any help with this would be gratefully appreciated.

There are a lot of engineering companies based in and around the City - GHD, SKM, Worleyparsons (who I'm with). Also BHP, Origin, Epic, SA Water have their crop of (mechanical) engineers.

Defence, power and infrastructure are still busy. Mines/Metals are still hurting from the GFC.

CareerOne and Seek will give you some pointers.
