Carpentry Work

We've finally booked our flights and are arriving in Adelaide next month. Now we've secured that I feel it's time to really knuckle down and find some work! Being a carpenter it's not a job that can be arranged too far in advance anyway and was difficult until we knew our definate date of arrival. My OH has found this site really useful and learnt all sorts of information but not been able to find out much about work on the carpentry front. Does anyone know where any work can be found?? We've been looking in the papers and keep being told there's lots of work, but where and how do we go about making any contacts?

We're arriving on 25th Feb - lets hope we can quickly sort some temporary accommodation out!! As usual it's all been a last mad panic.

 

Mostly I do 2nd fix. I've been in the trade since I left school and have been self-employed for nearly 25 years so have plenty of experience. As you can appreciate in that time I've covered quite a lot of different aspects from new builds to barn conversions and renovations plus kitchen fitting, flooring, stairs and galleries, fixing despoke fitted wardrobes, specialised work on listed buildings, sun rooms, dormer windows etc etc etc. Probably too much to list really but pretty much all aspects of carpentry and I've been in the trade so long.

Have you any idea where abouts you fancy settling? North, South?

We've just organised a short term furnished rental in West Lakes for about 6 weeks so we can try to find a longer term unfurnished. We've been looking at the north/north east suburbs but really it depends on where I can find work. I see you're in Happy Valley. When we came over last year for a reccie we stayed in Christies Beach which was OK but we don't really want to be on the coast. We looked at a few houses on Happy Valley and liked it. We may decided to settle in the southern suburbs once we've come over and had another look around in which case we'll possibly go for somewhere like Happy Valley.
