Sorry to hear that would have thought they would be desperate for Radiographers. Is it that there are no jobs or just that he needs something specific like Oz experience or an Oz certificate?

What about medical placement agencies some of them specialise in locum jobs or even temporary health work jobs that maybe would allow him to get his foot in the door?

Did you choose to come to sa on a general visa or tied to sa on sponsership.

If you aren't tied to sa..could you move states.

I know its easier said than done..but worth a thought.

The only job he's been offered by an agent is Melbourne so we living apart at the minute but half his wages goes on travel and accomadation, still, half is better than none.

Don't be fooled by $40 flights interstate. It's only that much if you want to fly out at 11pm sat night then fly back sunday morning at 6am....lol

You're not going to like what I say now Sarah...BUT ...if you have a job, why doesn't your hubby do something different.

I know it goes against the grain, but sometimes needs must.

I couldn't get a job in my profession so have done something completely different.

I know it's not right , but sometimes you just have to bite the bullet.

Hopefully I will look back in 10 years time and say that everything happens for a reason!!!

Now he's had an Oz driving licence for 6 months he's going in for taxi driving. He's tried to apply for a few other thing but in true Ozzie rude style they don't bother to reply or bother to tell you your not successful..I mean how much does an email cost.

Was just wondering - what about the universities - perhaps they may have some research projects on the go where they could use someone with your husband's skills.

Else if all else fails what about administrative type work - I know it isnt ideal but then neither is taxi driving for someone with his skills.

I quite agree.I have found that..bloody rude. How long does it take to type a generic e-mail.

Still believe that if you have taken the time to send a resume and a personalised letter of introduction..it's only good manners to reply!!!!

In these days of technology..it doesn't take much time or effort!!!!

Is Port Lincoln easier for him to FIFO of, or drive to/from? SEEK - Radiographer Job in Adelaide

Has he tried going into I-MED in Stepney with a coffee for the recruitment agent and refusing to leave till they offer something? My husband got made redundant here from his trade and industry, and ended up saying to the agents - I'll take anything you have, no matter how low paid, how short term, just to get a foot in the door. It worked for him - he's working now although in a different industry - it's just a matter of proving yourself and showing your work ethics sometimes.

There's also this one: http://www.seek.com.au/Job/locum-radiographer/in/adelaide/19183211

Thanks Diane, Port Lincoln is a bit far it's an 8 hour drive but he'll defo apply for the other one. Never heard of SEEK but it seems ok so I'll add it to my daily look up for jobs. He's in Melbourne at the min working for a locum, not ideal but it brings in some money.

Guest SA Great

Going back to changing carrers, my wife was a semi professional in electronic design when she came here. We were going to Perth but heard about Technology Park with all the high tec companies so we came to Adelaide, whoops. Two companies that were on the verge of closing down!! She ended up going to Uni and retraining as a nurse, and now she loves it!! Just a thought!

I think SEEK is one of the bigger ones - another networking tool that may be worth him joining is Linked In - I think you can put a CV up on there and employers can look at it and contact you via there. Networking is so huge here in Adelaide so the more of that he can do, the better. Fingers crossed for him anyway, I'm sure the perseverence will pay off eventually.

Sorry Sarah just had another thought - there is a guy called Jeremy who has set up a site for doctors here in Adelaide - I know they have social get togethers; may be worth your OH going along to one of those, or having a look at his website, which is Home

It's not what you know sometimes, it's who.....!! Fingers crossed still.

Hi Sarah, Im a radiographer. Even though I now live in London, I studied and lectured at UniSA and worked at the Repat Hospital and Bensons Radiology. Its disappointing to hear about your husbands situation, it must be frustrating for the family. I have to say that it does seem unusual/worrying that there is no work for radiographers in Adelaide, as Im looking at coming home in the next 18 months.

I would actually suggest contacting UniSA and see if there are any tutorial facillitators posts availible, when I lectured there we were always short of radiographers to take tutorials across all year levels. I would also keep in touch primarily with Flinders and RAH as they traditionally have a high turn over of staff, us Adelaidians tend to like to wander over overseas, so vacancies will come up.

Also alot of hospitals dont advertise positions availible, as you've probably found its a little different than in the UK, where advertising is compulsory. It is a matter of being in the right place at the right time.

A final thought is that students graduate in November/December time. I can remember the students (including me at one time) sending in their CV's to Benson's, Jones, RadSA etc at about July/August, it was rare that radiology practices advertise outside this time. From memory Bensons always had the biggest intake and they were the 1st to advertise in about May, the RAH were always the last to take staff. However places like Dr Jones and Flinders never advertised and only interviewed students/radiographers who had been there on clinical placement.

I know he has applied at alot of places, I guess its just the way a smaller city like Adelaide with fewer posts works, but timing is everything and Im sure something will come up soon.
