Very worried

Hi

 

Im writing this thread wondering if anyone is in a similar position? its been a very long road to get to the point where we are today (and hardly there at all sometimes it feels). Since my interview last May with Peyton Ogrady - filling RMN positions in Adelaide - which i was offered straight away ive tried to stay positive through the rollercoaster of emtions. I outlined clearly during the interview that it would be at least 18 months until we would be able to head over and Alex (head of nursing) was cool about that - saying that they were staggering the influx of RMNs anyway.

 

I was on maternity leave until December this year and (as outlined to Peyton) really unable to get the house selling aspect of it really moving until i returnedto work and had money coming in. Weve needed do work on the house in orderto sell and couldnt get away from that. Ive always been honest and upfront about this to Peyton and have had to gradually work through the process - ielts, qualifications etc all sent off to the nursing registration, told work and family (most of them) what was happening and the 'big move' weve now sorted out the money to do the house up and put on the market in the next three-four weeks. Were packing up the stuff in the loft and getting things sorted. OH has gone onto meds for his bp as he doesnt want to fail the medical.

 

WELL, my oh has been especially concerned about 'what if the house doesnt sell in time' what happens then? I have mentioned this inthe past to the agency representative (there has been two and it would seem that the've both got the boot) who like the inital Alex have seemed ok ie that the position would stand until the following year (beginning) so ive felt ok about that. However, i mentioned it again to Peyton and was shocked to hear that there may not be a position if i couldnt make the 18month deadline.

She went so far as to say that it of course was our decision on what we had to do in order to get to adelaide for the deadline ie whether we rent the house out or not or just decide not to go at all! im upset that whilsteverything is going on - all weve done and are doing that that could happen.

 

She is going to get back to me about whether they would extendthe deadline but if they wont then im in a really bad position right now. All the time and effort put into this so far - would it be worth going for the visa and medicals if the house doesnt sell and i lose the job. - unsure of how they stand on the sponsored visa front?

 

Sorry this is long winded but anyone else in a similar position?

I went through the same company and yes they work on commission, and they don;t get paid till you arrive here, then the health authority send them a big fat cheque. If they dont want you on your terms, then tell them to stuff it. The deadline is radiculous, they shouldn't put you under that much pressure. All in all I think it took me about a year from start to move. I would ask what dictates the the deadline, as you can't make an informed descision without knowing all the facts. If you come on the visa they're offering (457) it will dramatcially effect your money anyway, so listen to those warning signs, if there's pressure now and conflicting information, then what else might they chop and change their mond about. Go with your gut instinct, re-group with your hubby and explore your options.

hi there just wondering what you mean about the 457 effecting the money? Also did you go across with CNAHS?

I would apply for Perm residence and come that way . I wouldn't have anything to do with Peytons or CNAHS having worked for them. You'll probably be very disappointed that you did go with them and leave after a painful time with them . They are very unprofessional.

The 457 doesn't entitle you to any childcare benefit, or child care rebate (the government give you 50% of your total childcare costs every three months directly to your bank account). CNAHS (it used to be called this) but its all one now (AHS) pronounced arse (ha ha), make you be a level 1 nurse no matter what experience/wage your used to, they promised me a level 3 nurse (google the wages) within three months and its a joke, you can't even get a level two nurse within three months. They tell you allsorts till you get here, then stick you anywhere. I've had my fingers burnt, sorry to bore you. I don't think I'll ever get over it. The manager isn't the one who recruited me, but they're much of a muchness. If your not desperate to get here quickly, then I agree with elaine, sort it out yourself then your not tied to anyone.

hi ok ive been looking at the pr which has always been too expensive for us, however i think that were half way there now having passed the ieltsand sent off for the nursing registration already. i have no idea of whatto do in orderto get pr though, i would want to do it on my own withoutgoing through the expense of an agent - can you advise me please?

Afraid to say that I agree with everyone - dont tie yourself to an agency - if you hate where you work which may happen you are tied after all the agency dont want to lose their comission. Also with children the child benefit, child care benefit and rent assistance would be a great advantage when setting up here. I think the initial outlay for us was a couple of thousand and it certainly was worth it. We did it ourselves it was quite straight forward - just make sure you tick all the boxes

Nic I hink you should go for the 176 state sponsored visa. They seem to be processing them really quickly at the mo and will give you full benefit entitlement once you arrive. It should be easy enough to secure employment with the organisations themselves just contact them direct and have a telephone or skype interview.

Most of all don't stress, take a deep breath, you've already done a l of the hard work and you'll be here before you know it. Good luck.

Reading this thread has really alarmed us. We have committed so much to this.

 

I was just wondering if anyone on here has had a POSITIVE experience with Peytons or CNAHS???

If so, please please reassure us that we arent making a big mistake.

Not all agencies are bad..........a lot of people have positive experiences;

I arrived 2 1/2 years ago taking a job through a recruitment agency and in the main it was ok;

That is until i wanted to change to PR............it all went a bit pear shaped then, but i got lucky, had influential neighbours, excellent advice from a migration agent and a bloody decent contact at the DIAC in Melborne.

 

In my view, selling the house just now might not be such a bad thing.......the exchange rate is appalling, and unless your move is definately permanent its a good get out!!

Hi, we relocated in Nov last year on a 457 visa but not via the medical profession route so i cant comment on that side of things. I just wanted to say that if you are on a 457 visa, working temp jobs you could claim living away from home allowance (LAFA) which goes a long way towards making up for not qualifying for benefits. Think this has to go through the employers payroll as a salary sacrifice scheme.

 

If you can manage renting your home out without selling it, it maybe in your favour. You will loose a lot in the exchange rate but it may not be possible for you. You do spend a lot when you get here the bond on a house is 6 weeks rental so it can be lots! Cars are more expensive than in the uk if you have to get one and food on par with the uk.

 

But all in all i think it is an opportunity that cannot be missed as the lifestyle is great (especially with kids) and the people are lovely. Adelaide is a great small city to arrive in as you soon get familiar with places and it becomes more homely.

sorry to worry you, im sure youll be fine, i think its because we havnt sold the house yet and have fingers crossed for that happening in order to get over within the 18 months.

 

Additionally,i have a feeling that because my specialism is eating disorders, and the ed dept seems to be in the process of being disolved? they now dont know where to put me although of couse my skills are transferrable.

 

ive been in touch with a migration agent who it seems would charge me £750 to help us but of couse wed need the extra for the176 visa not sure how to manage that - how long does that visa take anyone?

 

Im waiting to hear back from peyton to see if thyey would extend- the 176 may well fit into that if they do or alternately as mentioned get in touch with cnahs before getting to adelaide.

 

feeling a little more positive afterb reading other posts and speaking with oh-hed be happy with less time pressure.

I can't fault the help that O'grady peyto gave us to get here, sending things in order not to overwhelm us, and ofcourse teling us about this website, was a godsend. However, if people ask about things, then they need to expect not everyone will have had good experiences in everything. Also, if you're coming for the same or better job satisfaction, then that isn't always possible as its a totally different health system, and they don't have a clue who you are or how good you are at your job. You have to prove yourself all over again, and there's nothing wrong with this but its important to recognise quite how different things are here (that's another reason why i moved) but the mental health is totally different, in models and working practices.

 

Anyway, I'm waffling, but if people ask questions about different people's experiences, then expect confilct somewhat, and take info as its meant to be, info, not life guidance. Good luck to all, no harm meant by my comments, but a move across the world isn't just about your job is it??? If your job was that important to you, you wouldn't be considering moving would you????? When you do get a level 2 job, the money is good for the responsibility you have.

I agree in so far as initially Peyton were extremely helpful but some aspects of the process got me down ie how they offered pr to me then backtracked, they also offered rn2 for when i firststarted by doing the paper work this end but that was backtracked, offered a clinical role in ed again backtracked but ive triedto remain flexible and positive - understanding how the big NHS trusts work - nothing is perfect so cant be much different to that. Peyton have just let me know that they will be talking to a big wig in CNAHS about extending generally and will let me know tomorrow. They are saying that they do want to support me so fingers crossed - may still do the pr though if we can fit it in . nic

In some ways it's nice to know you have an agency to ring with queries, as it's all such a big move.

You are right, I am now dealing with the 3rd Consultant since last year! Wonder why the last 2 disappeared! All the best!

thanks for this post. My oH and i have decided that we do want to go down the pr route as the migration agent did also say that that process at the moment isnt taking too long. As such if peyton will extend the deadline for getting there to work then like yourself we would have a greater option. Ok so fingers crossed x
