17 years here :)

I would keep the cover letter brief, main points are the skills you have on your CV and your previous experience.

Dont wanna knock ya or get ya down but only 3 yrs in IT is still pretty raw.

Whats ya field of interest or experience ? as i know a few companys that might be taken on soon.

They been trying to get me to work for them since i been here but i can earn as much driving buses with out all the headaches.

I build websites, create software and repair computers just as side line to keep my hand in now.

Hi,

I am fairly new to this forum, we are arriving in Adelaide in August and I was looking to get into IT, before this I was operating buses and coaches in Northumberland. I decided to do an MSc in Computing (distance learning) to get some newer qualifications but still have a year to go.

I have been creating websites using html and javascript for a year now and recently completed the Java programming module of the course.

I would be interested in any pointers you could give me for It work in Adelaide and also what sort of pay do bus drivers get there?

Do you need to retake your PCV when you get there?

Thanks

John

Hiya John

I would concentrate on asp, jsp, php and actionscript in web design.

There is money to be made in IT but truly depends on your field of interest.

As a bus driver I normally take home between $1000 - $1200 per week but I do put a few extra hrs in.

Yeah you need to redue your bus liecese here.

Hope this helps

System admin project management, computer hardware & software troubleshooting, customer service, remote support is just the normal stuff.

On web sites & web application development what languages do you use ?

Ive found here that a lot of clients are being ripped off buy what companys are charging for what i class as absolute basic crap and on hosting as well.

Thats why i get so many to re-build and maintain, think companys here have a problem creating server pages from scratch or with out the help of other applications.

With 3 years behind you i would get ya CV out to all the agencys and see what turns up.

Thats what i did and got offered quiet a lot of work but not worth the money or headaches that come with it. Ive got over 20yrs behind me.

What quilifcations have you got as well, i spoke to a company this morning that will be after a developer in the next month or so specialing in jsp and actionscrip.

IT jobs can pay quite well here in SA, starting with basic web development on around $40k and rising with experience and knowledge.

From some of the applications I've seen, it really pays to have a clear specialisation, rather than be a jack-of-all.

under 3 years experience is around the junior to mid level, though market rates and demand will always be the key.

If you're looking for IT work, I'd highly recommend getting in contact with a guy called Bruce Jacobssen bruce@adelaideinterim.com.au.

My company will be looking for a junior developer in the near future due to expanding, with knowledge in ANY of the following... .Net/SQL/VB6/ASP... IT qualifications a big plus. We specialise in Microsoft Technologies, using Visual Studio 2010, SQL Server 2008, entity Framework 4, compact framework etc...

if you don't have any luck - I have a web design business and outsource stuff from time to time - mainly custom mods and components for Joomla sites.
