Minimum wage and hours of work

Hi just wondered if you could tell me about working hours and things please, I have found out the minimum wage in oz is $15.51 is this the minimum for all jobs. In the uk you can earn so much before you are taxed, does this apply in oz and is there a maximum amount of hours you can work and still be classed as part time.

As long as you are a resident for tax purposes, you can earn up to $6,000 before being taxed. Then between $6,001 and $37,000 you pay 15%, $37,001 - $80,000 it's 30% and the above $80k you pay 37% as far as I'm aware.

What line of work are you in? For a lot of jobs there are 'Awards' which will detail the minimum terms and conditions for that job or sector.

Each job description has its own minimun wage/hourly rate this is called the award rate....any decent company pays above the award rate...they also HAVE to pay your Super Annuation/ Pension.....you can search soemwhere for a break doen of award rates for each job description...

 

the hours of work vary too as some compnanies have RDOs ( rostered days off ) this will be detailed by the company that your are emlpyed by.

I am a retail manager so hoping for better wages in Oz wages in the UK are rubbish in retail

Once the carbon tax is introduced next year these figures will change,

 

The current tax-free threshold of $6000 (the amount you can earn before paying tax) will be increased to $18,200 from July 1 next year and $19,401 from July 1, 2015. But here's the rub. The two bottom tax rates are being increased. The current 15 per cent rate will be lifted to 19 per cent from 2013 and the 30 per cent rate will rise to 32.5 per cent from 2013 and 33 per cent from July 1, 2015.
