I appreciate you have a different skills set but thought this may help...

My partner specialises in server infrastructure and there is a big emphasis on VMware over here. He was in his last job for four years (first job when we came to Adelaide) and decided it was time for a change and within two weeks and only one interview he had a new permanent position as a Senior Engineer.

The company was unable to fill his old job for a variety of reasons and the decision was made to recruit another person on a lower level to see if they could attract more applicants. They have only received 30 applications for this position, which is fairly low.

If you have the right skills and the right attitude you should do well.

If you have any technical questions my partner would be happy to answer them if he can, he is currently in Sydney with work at the moment, staying and working a 10 minute walk from the Opera House, it's alright for some!

Hi Jessica,

Looks like your OH's experience could be quite helpful to some of us.

How he find the 1st job?

Thank you for your responses on the other thread, I am trying to gather as much details as possible before I start to apply for jobs.

His first permanent job was in the paper (Saturday is jobs day) and the second permanent job was through an agency.

There are a lot of Indian students already in Adelaide trying to get work. If your level of english language is good then this will help, if not you may struggle. My partner has interviewed approximately 10 Indians for IT positions at his previous workplace and their resumes were good, but they then struggled in interview understanding the questions and answering them.

Thank you Jessica, your posts have been very helpful.

Although I have scored 8.5 on the IELTS, I am still not much confident about my level of English.

I have started to watch clips on youtube and OZ English sounds different to my ears.

I have to say that we have been advertising and interviewing for IT positions, and there have been a lot of foreign nationals who've applied. All with good skill sets. Communication is a major factor in dealing with clients etc... so a good grasp of the English language can be a deciding factor.

I am applying for subclass 475 regional sponsorship visa. One question State Sponsorship 2 yrs stay is only a "moral obligation and no legal action can be taken for breaking this 2 year commitment"... ? what if one is not able to get a job after trying 6 months ?

Is there any provision in such cases ? Thanks, Ajay
