plasterer/renderer wanting to know the work situation

hi me, brian and the kids are hoping to be in adelaide before the end of may, not sure if were headed north or south yet haha may be as far up as blakeview or low down as port noarlunga, whats the plastering work situation like?? are you all sub-contactors or are there full time jobs aswell?? what about labourers jobs?? omg were scared now as weve been told australia is hitting the recession now please fill us with hope haha :)

Building trade is in a bit of a slump just now there are jobs about but not many should be ok as a plasterer seen a couple of jobs advertised.

hi guys we came over from ireland in november 11, son and i both plasterers was lucky had a mate here plastering so got the experience needed to do rendering over here,it is very different to the uk /ireland but once you get used to the system its much easier work.Work does seem hard to come by but if you keep trying you may get a break, just this week i got mine when i got in with a specialist contractor who after a few days looking at standard of work now says he can keep me busy all year.Also to contract on your own you need to obtain a builders licence, this can be done by attending a course over a couple weekends then applying or you can still be self employed working under another contractors licence.Work still is by far a hell of a lot busier than in uk/ireland, Dont look like a recession here lol.

hi guys thanks for that its so bloody worrying and yes brian has said its diffrent to over here but im quite sure he'll get the hang of it, did yous take your plastering drills out with you (dont know what there called haha the big heavy things) :)

if they are 110v dont bring them no use here don't have 110v here all 240v sell them there if 110v

Hi mate ,spreading a bit different to UK, been here 4 yrs now and sub to a company. if you can render 'sand and cement' you should be fine. Skimming work does'nt really exist, they call it white set.Plaster and lime mixed then the same application on rendered interior walls. Loads of texture coating so if u can plaster ur be fine. Work is quiet at the mo, but sure it will pick up soon. As for 110v tools i bought my mixer and transformer over and had no probs, mind you i had them tagged and tested the other day and the guy had never seen them before .But he did say "maybe oz should go this way'' Regarding work its pot luck mate,Adelaide is very a who u know,not what u know place but i reckon do what i did and ring up the plastering companys. All the best be lucky.
