Training to Become a Teaching Assistant

      Hello Everyone,

Before we applied for our Visa I went for an Apprenticeship as a Teaching Assistant but never succeeded. Please can someone help me as I would love to be able to start a course over in Oz and get my qualifications to become a Teaching Assistant and then eventually to become a Teacher. My OH has fully supported me in being able to go back to education while he earns the pennies . I would just like to know where does courses like this, I have tried to search the web but only jobs are coming up (which I suppose is a good sign). I am also wondering whether to e-mail a school and see if they could tell me what I would need to get qualified in and names of courses. I would also like to know before I arrive because we would like to live near the place where I would study so the commute wouln't be too much.

      Thanks in advanced peeps
      Natalie

      Hi Natalie

why not bite the bullet and go straight for teacher training http://www.flinders.edu.au/courses/u...prbds_home.cfm.
there are not as many jobs for TAs as there are in the UK, so if your aim is to teach anyway, maaybe just go for it???

I'd suggest going for teacher training.

I know a couple of teachers in Adelaide and they have told me TA positions are hard to come by.

Teacher registration in Australia is at a State/Territory level and each has its own requirements, but the link I posted should give you a reasonable heads up.

Hi aim a teaching assistant in the uk and now I'm in oz I have found out that the job doesn't mean the same here. You are move like a lsa. You don't work with the same teacher or class all the time you move about and do the jobs like preparing materials and setting up the classroom. If you are in the uk look for a four year teaching course. A friend of mine as a three degree and is strugg
Ing to teach in south Australia. Hope this helps and it sounds right.
