We Are In The First Stages Of The Migration Process, And We Were Wondering If Anyone Could Inform Us Of The Biggest Problems They May Have Encountered, And Give Us Any Tips To Help Us Along The Way.
I Am A Qualified Electrician, And Would Like To Hear From Anyone Who Has Gone Through A Similar Process.
Look forward to hearing from you
hello stixblue and welcome to pia!
you've made one big decision already - decide where you'd like to move to!
check out www.adelaidebound.com that gives you lots of answers!
what other hurdles?
be prepared for lots of waiting (stock up with drinks ;) and chocolate!)
the house sale seems to be a big one!!! depending obviously how badly you want to get on the plane.
besides that just ask away ...
Welcome to pia, good luck. Mozzy's already given you a link, the whole thing is stressful at times but once you have that sticker in your passport, what a feeling it makes it all worth while!
The biggest problems we found were meeting the deadlines. We had an agent helping us but even so the running around collecting documents, making payments, etc is done by you and with full time jobs, kids, what passed for a life somewhere thrown in, it was stress from top to bottom.
The waiting drives you mad.
But the relief when you get the call...I can still remember laughing, crying, smiling, saying thank thank you over again, having to sit down and a thousand other things I can't describe. Bloody fabulous.
The most sensible advice I can give you is keep a sense of humour...at times the only thing left to do is scream. The second most sensible advice is collect every piece of paper you need, photocopy them all 6 times and take it all to a solicitor or Justice of the Peace (Magistrate) for them to certify. It may seem excessive but you will need one copy for a spare, one copy to send for skills assessment, another for registering for your licence, another to show for a job, and most likely another one because someone lost the first copy you sent. It will cost but it is cheaper if you do it in bulk.
We initially looked into moving to Adelaide we just read through loads of posts on PIA site and got the feel for visa's and lifestyle's available to us and asked loads of really silly questions. All questions got a reply, no matter how daft, so just ask, all questions answered. Use the site to explore all you need to know.
