Is there a market for private tuition?

Hi, I'm a primary teacher and wondered if there is any call for private tuition?

I would welcome any thoughts from parents of children in Y7 / 8 and and if they feel there is a call for private tuition. Also with the children completing the Naplan tests - is there a need for additional tuition if children are not getting it at school?

I'm looking for something i can do around my youngest pre-school child and keep my mind active. Not sure where I would advertise it - is there a free paper?

Thanks Karen

Don't know about tutors at that age (we had one for our daughter in Year 12) but I keep hearing ads on the radio for something called Home Tutor - I think from memory their website is something like hometutor.com.au - or it may be that their phone number is 1300 hometutor... I think it could be this lot http://1300hometutor.com.au/adelaide - possibly worth a call if you wanted to work through an agency.

Oh and the free papers around Adelaide are the Messenger newspapers - there are separate editions in each area.

Would it be worth contacting your local schools?

I don't know whether they would need you to be registered or anything but they might advertise your services in their newsletter or, at the very least, you might make some useful contacts for when you are ready to go back to work.

IMHO, people don't really stress about the NAPLAN but there might be some parents who want extra tuition to hothouse their kids so they pass the IGNITE entrance exams.

It might even be worth contacting high schools too because there always seem to be a few kids who would benefit from extra, basic, Maths and English tuition.

Hi there

There is a market for private tuition, but I don't know how big it is. My wife who was a teaching assistant in the UK, specialising in math, was registered with a company called Tall Poppy. Search them through the internet. Basically, you are registered through them, and you will get offer when any pupil near you wants to have a tuition. She is no longer doing it, because she is busier with her other work. Also because in the 12 months with Tall Poppy, she got about 3 students, I think..

regards
