Hi there,

hoping to come out to Adelaide on pr visa (hubby as main applicant) in autumn 2014. I am a midwife with 15 years experience and although at first I will have to be a full time mum, I will still be looking for some bank/agency shifts. Anyone any idea on the availability of work such as this? I am direct entry trained so would not be looking for general nursing, only midwifery. Also with regards to registering with ahpra- do we need to get our visa sorted before applying for this?

Thanks in anticipation for any advice..........

J

Hi Darjoe,

I was recently in Adelaide and told I should pick up work okay - once your face gets known things can come up!!

I have applied for registration - but waited for my hubby's visa to be confirmed first.

The length of time it takes depends on where you apply for registration( which state). I am also only applying for midwife - although I am also a nurse. Will wait and see what is about.

I will try and keep you updated on jobs when I get there!! Keep an eye on the health sa website http://www.sahealthcareers.com.au - all jobs are advertised on there now, no matter what hospital.

the womens and childrens/Lyle mcewin will give you the e-mail address of where to send your CV - they can then e-mail you if anything comes up. The lady at W&C said I would get work on the casual bank.

Private hospitals also have opening. I think the idea is to contact the hospitals directly when you know you are coming.

Good luck

Bec

hi bec, this is no longer true, APHRA now covers all states it is a national register and will take the same time regardless of where you apply/work. good luck:biggrin:
