IT Jobs in Adelaide

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I am from Belfast, Northern Ireland and will be emigrating to Adelaide along with my aussie partner in November this year. My background is in IT support/IT infrastrcuture support/Remote Support/Field work.

Are there many IT jobs in Adelaide? Will I find it difficult to get work?

My partner's family is based there and we will be living in Adelaide for up to two years if all goes to plan.

I have previously worked in Brisbane on my working holiday visa and found work within 4 weeks of arriving.

If anyone can point me in the right direction job wise would be much appreciated e.g. is it best to use a recruiting company etc.

I am 28 and have six years experience working in the IT industry.

Thanks.

Welcome to PIA. If you search the forum there are quite a few threads on IT work in Adelaide. As it has been said many times, Adelaide is very much about networks and who you know. I'd suggest joining all the agencies that specialise in IT (Robert Walters may be worth a shot) and do lots of LinkedIn networking too. Personally I'd go for it and just sign up with as many agencies in possible but also don't be shy to sell yourself and send random introductions (with a tailored note) to people via LinkedIn etc. Good luck!

Just something to consider is Nov/Dec/Jan are generally the quietest times for job hunting in Adelaide and the job market 'shuts down' for the Christmas/summer school holiday period. I would recommend bringing enough money to cover you over this period just in case.

(Sorry to the longterm posters on here, I know I keep making this point and you probably all know it off by heart by now, but I feel it is important that newbies are aware).

I work in IT in Adelaide my skills are VMware, Microsoft Server, Microsoft Exchange, general server infrastructure support and I have not had any trouble finding work.

Hi Mr Technical,

Thanks for the info. I have a lot of experience in cloud based systems i.e Office 365, Exchange Online, Google Apps, Online Backup. Is this something that is taking off in OZ at the min?

I also have a lot of experience supporting server 2003, server 2008, server 2012, active directory etc.

Do you have permanent employment or are you contracting? Thanks.

The company I work for offers cloud based services and have had clients adopt them. VMware is very popular here and is ahead of the UK for adoption.

Both jobs I've had have been permanent. My current job I got through an agency advertised on seek and my first job was advertised in the Adelaide newspaper.
