Childminder (sorry not sure what their called over there)

I'm a childminder in the UK. I was just wondering how I would go about doing this when we move?

you would need to gain your Level III certificate in Children's Services; if you have your NVQs in the UK once you're here they may allow you to use Recognition of Prior Learning to help you gain some points towards this - whic would obvioulsy decrease the time it would take you to gain your Level III.

 

Other than that, the role itself is very similar as are the expectations with regards to safety etc of the children - this website is pretty good http://www.familydaycare.com.au/index.php/main/Home#M55 and should give you more information. Family Daycare doesn't appear to be quite as widely used as the child centre based care but there are definitely FDC people out there.

 

I suppose you'd also have to take into account the house you'd be living in - if it's yours no problem but if it's rented it might be just too prohibitive to make the required and necessary changes.

There is a desperate shortage of FDC in most areas.
