Woolworths?

Hi Guys,

I recently visited the Aus Expo in Olympia. I didn't even know Woolworths were there, but got chatting and had an interview. It went really well and the next step is a video conference and possible job offer (exciting).

I understand Woolworths' position in Aus, but wondered if anyone has first had experience (or second hand knowledge) of what they are like to work for (in Aus).

Also happy to hear about the retail market if anyone has worked for Coles etc....

Any help would be very much appreciated.

James

I was interested in working for the DC for Cole Myers but its to far North of the city for me & the hours would not suit around the children (I worked for Boots for 21 years). What position are Woolies offering? Woolworths here is a smaller Morrisons, a lady I met works on the check out, been there for 8 years & loves it.

My daughter works as a casual in the deli department at Coles. They don't stuff her around and she was getting lots of extra shifts, but this year cos she's in yr 12, she said her parents would only allow her to do 2 shifts, one on the weekend and one during the week. They were fine with this. She gets a staff discount card that she can use at any of the coles group stores, it gives her 5% off(and me :) ). If any of you have teenagers these are great after school jobs for them, asthe shops close at 9 and they are out by 9.30 unlike the fast food chains where you might be picking them up at 2 in the morning and on a school night.

Thanks for the info.

I've been working as a Regional Manager in the UK, but would spend some time as a Senior Store Manager to learn the Aus market (which is quite different to UK) before looking to promote.

The salary seems to be quite good, but as normal with retail it's long hours, evenings and weekends. Not really the reason we're moving to Adelaide. Bit of a dilema as I'd love to have the security of a job, but don't want to jump straight into a huge comitment and 70 hours a week!
