Advice needed for nurse coming on work visa

Advice needed please I have a family member wanting to come out independently on a work visa (what is that called any special title for that visa) I feel it would be a better option to do that to coming with one company and then never being able to work for anyone else....has anyone done anything like this on a work visa? Does anyone know any nursing contacts here that they could contact for advice on doing this please she'll be an RN here any advice greatly appreciated thank you

We came in on a Skilled Independent Visa, although it had a different number when we came in (have a look at the link below as a starting point). As soon as we arrived we were permanent residents and the visa entitled us to live and work anywhere in Australia. We chose to come to Adelaide because we thought it would best suit us. We also could work for who ever we wanted and were not beholden to anyone, which is how we like it.

Everyone has different needs, some people prefer having a job to come to or prefer a quicker route to get the visa. We did not want anyone 'holding us to ransom' as can happen to meet visa requirements, so felt because we were able to get the points in our own right to come, that would suit us best.

 

The first point would be to contact a reputable migration agent who will be able to advise if your family member can meet the requirements or have a look at the link above.

 

In the last couple of weeks there has been a few adverts for nursing agencies looking for staff (probably on a casual basis)...see attached...

Thx so much for the comments....she's not coming to live permanently though so can't come on a residents visa ....purely a work one do you think she would get any work on one of those ?

Do you mean a working holiday visa (WHV)? Otherwise the only visa I can think you mean is a state sponsored visa which is permanent residence and therefore a visa to go for when migrating.

Yes that's what I was thinking just wasn't sure if the visa was still called that.....she wants to go back to the uk after just wants to get a feel for working here but wants to be able to get work ...I'm wondering if that would hold her back as its not permanent but I'm thinking a lot of nursing can be agency type work so might not matter just wondering if anyone's tried it or knows someone that has TIA

Well, she has to meet the requirements of the visa age wise. Also iirc being in nursing she has to undergo a few other things for the visa if she wishes to do nursing while here.

 

She would also have to register to nurse https://www.ahpra.gov.au/ I"m not sure if on a WHV this is done in advance or once there. Possibly done in advance as without it she would not be able to work I don't think.

 

And she would be limited to 6 months with each employer iirc.

 

Also if she is newly qualified she may struggle as they are often wanting experienced staff. She could search for nursing employment agencies in the UK that place in Aus and also Aus ones. I'm not sure if a WHV will help or hinder her job search tbh. She has the option to do other work on a WHV once in Aus. Many placements via agencies are for specific visas so longer term jobs etc.

 

She could probably research this all on her own with ease. There are lots of nursing sites that cover WHV in Aus and nursing. Also our sister site PIO has lots of threads and info on both nursing in Aus and the WHV

Registering with AHPRA can take up to 6 months and without out she won't be able to work as a nurse in Australia, they also changed the criteria to Degree level only

If she is young enough to get the Working Holiday Visa (18-31), then she could come over and do anything else apart from nursing (if she isn't registered with AHPRA)
