Midwifery Jobs

Just curious if any of you have used Maternity Services out there? I am a Midwifery Sister in UK and am coming over soon. An agency is setting up interviews in various hospitals for me while I am on holiday. I have researched the web but would value your opinions on which one has the best reputation as far as real customers go??

Is there any Community Midwifery?

Any nurses used an agency? They seem to be offering the world to me but obviously I will be locked in to one hospital for a while doing it this way, but could be there in 3-4 months!! So its tempting in one way.

Hi we are hoping to come out next year. not too worried about getting a job, im more concerned about how different it will be and how all my years of experience without a degree may not count for much. Also my area is community and especially home births I understand from conservations I have had that there is less autonomy there for midwives and as we can be stroppy b***ers sometimes that may be difficult. Any wise words of wisdom would be apprieciated.:wubclub:

Very good description of us. A general consultant recently told my hubby, who is nothing to do with the health service, that he "remembered his time in Obs" and would rather face a firing squad than a Midwife!!! Have sent you a pm about the job :)

Hi

Not a midwife but a nurse specialist in women's health. Just starting to looking for work here. After talking to Nurse Manager at Flinders Medical centre they are looking for midwives and apparantly there will be a new unit opening in the next 9 months or so. I know it is not community but might be worth considering. It appears there is much less autonomy extended practice is a swear word and some things are just wrong!! My friend just went back to the UK after working in a neuro unit that handcuffs patients to bed rails!!! scarry or what.

Hope you find what you are looking for

HALT:)

It is very different out here, I think if you think of nursing about 20 years ago (before i trained) then you will find things on a par. I hope by having great, motivated professionals out here we might make a difference to the profession as a whole.
