Probably a really dum question but do you need a P.45 to start work in Oz, I was just wondering if they need it for anything else but proof you were working where you say you were working.

Hi there

No you dont need your P45 to start work in Oz but you will need it if you wish to claim tax back prior to leaving the UK or after arriving in Oz (You need a P80 to do this, just give the tax office a call and tell them that you are leaving the country - they will know what to do). It well worth doing, my hubby and I left the country in October (last worked in Aug and Sept - I only worked part time and we had well over a £1000 back!). I had mine paid into our Uk account and Andy had a cheque sent over which we banked in our Westpac account for a charge of $10.
