I think its also tough for everyone at present. In our situation there were plenty of jobs advertised when we were planning to come out but once we had booked the ship etc the whole world economy went pear shaped (For want of better words) and got worse and worse. AIG, banks.... Its a very different enviroment at present and everywhere I go employers are saying they are cutting back or not taking on new staff. My job wasnt on the wanted list but we were desperate to leave the UK and our "Existance" there. The main aim was to survive the first year in oz. I did apply for everything other than my job with agencys (Via Centrelink web site). I didnt hear anything back from most of my over 60 applications, and I was willing to do anything. So I would say what we are going through now in 2009 is really tough. The only way I personally found to get a job was to walk into a company and ask, but this could be part of your overall approach. Agencies (There are good ones), Centrelink website and direct. As I said before, people are friendly here and they do like to help you. I think they generaly think "Good on ya" that you had the guts to leave the UK with no job and start a new life here.
I hope none of you looses the dream because of lack of work that would be gutting.
