Education question for nearly 18 year old

Hi

Sam is 18 on 12th September, has just done a year of sixth form and is going back to school again in September to do his A levels. He is not sure whether to finish his A Levels here and then join us or come straight with us when we go.

Does that mean he would be in year 12 or does he have to go to college to do that and any ideas on costings? Slightly confused as to how the schooling works over there.

Thanks

Niki

Have a look on the Dept Education (DECS) website in SA to see if A'levels is taken as equivalent to SACE stage 2 (South Australian Certificate of Education awarded for successful completion of year 12). I think it is but I'm not 100% sure so worth checking so you know for certain he doesn't he might have to repeat year 12 again here.

For ongoing study Uni or TAFE (FE colleges) entrance may depend on what his studies are deemed equivalent to. Yr 12 and a Tertiary Education Ranking is needed for Uni but international students are treated differently. Many TAFE courses will take completion of year 11. Costs will depend on your visa status on arrival
