I am an Adelaidean born and bred and about to move back in early August. My experience in growing up in Adelaide was great, but different to the UK. Life did not centre on attractions as you mention, but more on spending time with family and friends in our backyards, parks or at the beach; the population density is much less than UK cities, so parks are surrounded by less people who, generally, don't have to capitalise on any sunny days they get, so the parks have people but don't get so busy as the UK. Also, for Adelaide, there are some beautiful rural areas that are easily accessible such as the Riverland, York Peninsula, Barossa Valley and Flinders Rangers. The population of South Australia is extremely concentrated in the capital, so the great outdoors really is as that phrase suggests with very wide open spaces between small, sparsely spread villages, this makes for some amazing views of the sky at night such as being able to see the disk of the milky way. One major factor in our decision to move to Australia is the quality of life for children (we have a 1 year old son), especially since you can be paid well and have a cheap mortgage in a very relaxed and friendly culture.
Thanks Tyke, I hope it was useful for the original poster of this thread.
Awesome information for People planning to settle and make a New life in Adelaide. Even when I visited for a week's time last summer during December, I felt the city is isolated and not bustling with much outdoor activities as in any other cities. Probably its because its vacation time and people were travelling elsewhere. Later realised its not what I presumed and it has got a lot of things to offer us in terms of value, freedom, family time etc.
If and Only If the Job market is booming and solid, it would be the top most city for secure living and future. With instability in the jobs and lesser demands for the skills assessed, it perplexes even the stable minded souls.
If someone could let us know, if it was always this way w.r.t IT/ICT or any Professional Jobs in this city, may be we can very well prepare ourselves ahead.
