Year 12 performance ranking for High schools

Hi

Just arrived in Adelaide and now looking to get schools sorted for kids Charlie 14, Elizabeth 11, Neve 8

Understand that places in schools is all about living in the zone area's, but I'm finding it really tough to get an idea on how well a school performs, in terms of the final year 12 results.

Does anyone know if there is a report which gives the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank ( ATAR) for High Schools, as this would seems a good guide point which universities then use to rank student applications. Failing that any report which provides comparison guides would be handy .

thanks

Tim and Laura

As far as I am aware it is pretty much impossible to get hold of this information. My OH used to work at the exam board for the year 12 results and even he was not able to get this kind of information. Australia really does not go in for results tables and has something of an ethical objection to releasing these kinds of results and the creation of league tables. You can look at Naplan results for year 9 though and make some kind of call on this. I'm more than happy to be proved wrong about this if anyone can find something.

Kids don't have to remain in one high school through their school career.

Sometimes the child decides they want to change direction, and so move to a more appropriate school such as ASMS (Australian Science and Mathematics School) from Year 10, or somewhere like Marcellin Technical College, or one of the university-linked / senior colleges from Year 11.

With that in mind, and given the ages of your kids, I would be inclined to take a look at the:

http://www.myschool.edu.au

website to get an idea of how schools are performing. Then look around for high schools that will meet your fourteen-year old's current interests or abilities.

As for SACE and ATAR results, try looking through the individual school's annual report as they should include something there, if the information is not on their website. Or simply ask any schools you have short listed.

Welcome to South Australia,
