Hi,

This is so unlike me but I feel if i don't get out and meet people soon Ill end up back in the UK.

Im 28 weeks pregnant and I only have 1 old school friend who lives in Adelaide. Ive decided not to start work until ive had a year off with the baby - my husband and I only been in Adelaide for 2 weeks. Im living in Glenelg but have a car and im willing to travel. I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction to some sort of mothers and babies group or just a group of mothers in need of cAffine and adult conversation . Soon the little one will be here and i could do with some support and advice. Im 27 and this is my first baby.

thanks becci x

Hi Becci,

You could try to ask your midwife to direct you to such groups, I think I have heard that over here woman are being put in touch with women with similar due dates. For mothers and baby groups try your local Childrens centre or look on facebook for Glenelg playgroups or babygroups etc. Libraries usually also have storytime. Goodluck with finding friends!

Hi Becci

I have been in Adelaide for a month now and my kids (age 6 and 8) are at school and my husband at work. Now that I've done all the admin to get us settled, I'm beginning to wonder what I'm going to do all day so I'd love to meet some new people. I was living away from the UK (in Sydney) when I had my first baby so I know how important it is to have friends around you. It was much easier after the birth as the midwives set you up with a mothers group and you can begin to build a support network. I am living in the Eastern suburbs but I have a car and I'm happy to meet for a coffee.

Just catching up with this thread :) There is the Holdfast playgroup and baby group.

Playgroup 0-5 years - Mon & Thurs 9:30-11am

Baby playgroup 0-12 months - Mon & Thurs 11:15am-12:30pm (that bit later which is nice to give you time to get out the door).

Based in Somerton Park so not far from you. They are on FB under 'Holdfast Playgroup'. I think its term time only but double check. It's pretty local to you. Give them a call :)

And please feel free to drop me a PM if you wanted some company. I'm a bit older, in my not so early 40's now and have made friends with women from mid 20's to older than me since being here. I'm not a big social bunny in terms of bars or pubs and stuff but do like a coffee and a natter and the like. My child is at school now and I work part time but am often around Glenelg as work down that way sometimes and have family in the area.
