Just wondering how the education system works in OZ. In Northern Irealand we still have the 11+ to decide what school our kids go to in year 8, does Adelaide have anything like that or do you decide and apply to the school within your area.
Also what way are the exams in High school that would be equivalent to our GCSE and A levels. Do the kids choose and study certain subjects?
Lastly my 10 year old is due to do the 11+ here in November (hopefully we will be away) and his homework for the last year is awful. By the time he finishes it's dinner time and I find that the whole week is taken up with school work and I can't do anything with my kids during the week. He has homework at weekends and during the summer holidays when he was off for 8 weeks he came home with 20 past 11+ papers to complete before starting back. It is an awful lot of pressure on a 10 year old and I would rather he enjoyed his childhood for a while. So the question is in the primary years do the children have much homework. I have an image of being able to take my children to the beach or park after school for a while and not spending time indoors doing homework.
