Primary School Teacher

Hi,

I'm currently in the early stages of looking to move to OZ. I'm a primary school teacher specialising in special needs. What are the opportunities like in SA, I'm slightly dubious about teaching/living in the countryside as I have a 3 year old daughter but keep reading that realistically you have to teach in the "sticks" for a few years before moving to the suburbs. Can anyone share their their experiences?:)

I can't help you with the teaching, but country towns here can offer a great community spirit and be a great place for kids to grow up in. With the internet readily available the country is not so cut off as it was once. Kids still play in sport teams etc and stay at friends houses etc. You just get used to driving longer distances and begin to think nothing of it.

Hi there

I am primary trained and also specialise in Special Needs. I came here last year and did relief in both sectors. I quickly got a contract with a Special Needs class in a government school but they were more behavioural problems. Then I got a years 3 day a week contract in a Special school and now have a full time job for next year there and what a school...love it. I think it is a bonus to have that extra qualification as they do need people ith Sp Ed out here.Plenty of relief work here in the two Catholic SpEd schools and even more I would presume if you were to put your name down for the Government ones. I contacted the one I am in now before I left the UK. Try doing that as well. Good Luck
