Recommended primarysecondary schools

:eek:We are living in WA but going for a look around Adelaide in a couple of weeks with a view to moving there. The areas we are going to have a look around are Happy Valley, Hallet Cove, Abefoyle Park, Flagstaff Hill, Morphett Vale, Woodcroft, Port Noarlunga, Moana and Seaford. Can anyone recommend any decent primary/secondary schools in these areas. I have looked on many of the schools websites and of course they all sound fantastic but you only really get to know by communicating with parents who send their kids there. If anyone can recommend any of the schools in these areas (or let us know which ones to steer clear of) it would narrow our search down a bit and I would be very grateful. Hope you can help. Thanks.

Most of the schools in the areas you mention are pretty good.

 

I'd leave alone schools in Morphett Vale ............... I can't name it for fear of slander but it ain't that good.

 

Woodcroft has a good primary but it is getting full.

There is also a private school in Woodcroft.The fees are very reasonable.My daughter goes there.It's not a snobby place or anything.

 

I hear that Aberfoyle Park school is becoming full as well - take heed,with a lot of migrants arriving it is putting pressure on the schools!!!

This is one that has been bothering me,

 

Our agent has advised getting places in schools before we get there, but we don't know where we will be living, private or state, what year they will be in - Holly and Elises birthday fall so they could go into either year around their age. I would also like to look around the schools before I send my child to them

 

Our plan is to move in the August / Sept 08, Holly can have a few months off until we are sorted and then start afresh in the new term - Jan 09. As she may go back a year she won't miss any work and it saves messing her about moving schools again.

 

This is the plan - whether it all works out or not - who knows!

I would not even consider schools from the uk. Until you know the areas you would like to live how do you know which school to apply for? More and more schools over here are becoming zoned and it is easy to get them in once you are here

 

We found that getting Dawn into Kindy as soon as we found a rental helped her settle and we had a great afternoon being shown round the school while she went and played

Maybe there's a bad apple in there but I've got friends whose kids go to schools in Morphett Vale and they have no complaints.

People look for different things in a school. I'm choosing to send my child to Hallett Cove South because I like the fact it has small class numbers, whereas my good friend is sending her child to R to 12 because her eldest goes there.

 

Like others have said. When you get here have a good look round and decide for yourself. You'll just "know" that a school is right for your child. Like you "know" when I house feels right when you are looking to buy.

Just thought I would add my 2pence worth ....

We came out a year ago and I went around several kindes and was very impressed with them all. I have done a parent day at Woodcroft College to get on their waiting list for high school (possibly unless my two need a specialist college) and have been showed around Woodcroft Primary where Ruby will start next year. I was very impressed with what I have seen. Ruby currently attends Woodcroft Preschool and my advice to anyone about schools would be - get here, get looking, do the tours and decide once you are here. You may decide you really like a particular school and then realise that you cannot afford to live in that area .....

Everyone has different standards of living, different standards of everything, so take the pressure off yourself a bit.

As soon as we got here, I found my local playgroup and got talking the locals about their impressions, then looked and decided for ourselves.

Hi!

We have been looking for a primary school for chelsea for some time now, her name is on the list at woodcroft college, but we just had a interview at St Martins De Porre at sheidow park and were very impressed!! And yey! just received the letter to say she`s been accepted!! Had her name down for 1 1/2 years but i don`t thonk that is a indicator of waiting times , I was just paranoid!! Just look around and ask a lot of questions. Good Luck!!

We arranged our childrens schools before we came out, but that because we knew what area we wanted to be as we had done a couple of reccies, but only managed to look on school websites and recommendations.

 

My daughter whose 5 goes to the Aberfoyle Hub school which I do believe is very popular and I think it is very good. (she was in private school in the UK, only cos it was cheaper than a childminder)

 

My partner's daughter whose 13 goes to Aberfoyle Park High and she likes it a lot there and she can be quite fussy or where she goes (she was in a private school in the uk). We had also met up with another family who was emigrating and their daughter was starting at the school at the same time.

 

We came in Jan, so kids had 6 weeks between finishing Uk school and starting here (both started new schools in the first year of the school) Amelia in Reception and Lucy in Year 8 which I think helped too.

Are you saying that all the schools in Morphett Vale are no good Tyke? 3 of my kids go to school in this area and we have had no problems. What school in Morphett Vale do/did your kids go to??? i'm asking this so i can understand how you know about all the schools in this area or are you going off hear say?
