    Safety in Adelaide

My wife has it tuff enough coping with the move now. Definately would not want to put her through another move from one place to another if things dont work out. She is the sort of person who when gets used to a certain area, will want to stay there. I have heard that there are quite a few polish people in Adelaide, dont know if this is true. If it is migth be a good thing. Going through prices of rent etc - all 3 places very comparable. For around 300-350 per week you can rent a fairly decent, not too large place..

    Safety in Adelaide

Just like you all write - very good advice. Go where the work is.. Allthough I read a comment somewhere, that you very rarely will be treated seriously if you write regarding work, being 20thou kilometres away That meaning that I write now and "ask around" to get a rough picture of my possibilities. If Im there on the spot, its a lot easier to find out more concrete information. Being here in Poland for the next 3 months before our move, I can only rely on online info.. Going through seek.com.au I type in the areas: Sunshine Coast, Perth and Adelaide. Jobs available in all fields? 1025, 9459 and 5271. Hug edifference, than again, on SC u have 330thou people, so theoretically less competition for a position, in compared to Perth for example, which has a popullation close to 2mln.. Still brainstorming though. Perth seems interesting, as does Adelaide. Considering moving with a family to places I have only seen on pictures. Either stupidity or bravery. Choose one...
  3. Hi We are in the process of selling up all of our stuff, closing down our work here and moving down with the kids. The arrival date is around September of this year. My wife has the partner vosa, so all formalities have been taken care of - we are coming down There are 3 places we are considering - Sunshine coast, Perth and Adelaide. And the funniest thing is that we have only been on the sunshine coast, which we really liked. But dont know why - Perth and Adelaide keep on popping into my head, probably more work possibnilities there (being cities which have 2mln and 1.4mln people - in comparison to 350thou Sunshine coast..) I did post quite a while ago on a perth forum a question regarding safety in that city. As a father of two small kids its one of the major factors which will have an influence on where we live. Some people wrote that its just like any other big city - u have to watch out where you go, others wrote that drugs are a HUGE problem in Perth. Others even wrote that they have friends who have been carjacked on various occasions. My jaw kinda dropped a little.. How is it in Adelaide? How is the life there when it comes to crime? Any areas which are extremely high in crime, or are most areas safe? This might be a good topic as I am sure a lot of people thinking of making the move to Adelaide, will be interested in the safety aspect there? Best regards! Woj

    General advice

Hi! Reading ur post i felt like i was talking to myself we too want to move down with the Kids and are considering 3 places: Adelaide, sunshine Coast or Perth (depending on where will be a better place of finding work, living with Kids etc). We have not visited neither Adelaide or Perth and are trying to find as much info as possible. I also am in the sport field (tennis coach and have an EMS studio here where i lead personal trainings). Kinda similar story to yours. ... :-) ..but i can give me 5cents worth and tell you a bit about the sunshine Coast that u ask about. We Just spent 2 wks there with my wife. We flew down to activate her partner visa, without the Kids, do we had an opportunity to check it out. Life wise the SC is really laid back. We were in Mt Coolum but drove around the whole area. People are friendly. The business area/main cbd for the sunshine Coast is Marroochydore, so i pressume more work possibilities would be around that area. Places like Noosa - very touristy. Eamundi (with its famous markets) - a small Little Town really. Would not want to live there. Mt Coolum, where we stayed wad really nice. A small seaside suburd, right next to Coolum Beach which is a 5min drive. In Coolum Beach u have your banks and shops, cole etc right near the main Road that leads by the seaside. Via this Road u can drive to all parts of the sunshine Coast. We found that driving by car in that region was never a problem. Maybe because there are only about 350thou People in that area means that heavy traffic is sthg they dont experience too often, if at all. I found Mooloolaba to be a good option. Its right next to Marroochydore so work could be close, also its right on the Beach which we found Great. Also a lot of other places like Buderim which are situated next to it. After our stay there, personally we would only Look for a place to live near the Beach. The beaches there are simply fantastic, and there are a lot of places which offer the Beach at arms reach, like Coolum Beach, Mt Coolum, perigan Beach, Mooloolaba or Alexandra headland (the last 2 places would be good to live in IMO - all close to the Coasts business centre being Marroochydore. Lots of parks and other places which are Great to visit with Kids. We also went to the Australian zoo which was Great, other places like underwater world and others which we simply didnt have time to See. We loved the sunshine Coast and thought it would be a Great place to live with our Kids. The only reason we are considering Adelaide or Perth is because even though its a Great place, i have been Reading that it can he hard to land work which might be a bit of a worry. Rent in the SC is something around 350per week if u Look around. We did that by scrolling through gumtree.com.au or realestate.com.au - they gave Us a rough idea of the property rent/buy Costs. If u would have sny questions that PM me. Dont know if ill be able to help much being in the same boat as you (i.e not living there at the moment) but can tell u all we saw in queenslands Coast. Itll be a bit like a blind man trying to lead a blind man :-)
  6. Hi from Northern Europe! I've logged on here quite a while ago, and have written in the past as I had about a million gazzilion questions regarding our eventual move to Australia (my wife was at the stage of applying for her partner visa). We knew we would make the move to Oz, but did not have a precise idea where we would go (I only knew that we wouldnt want to go to Sydney. Too busy and too expensive..) Well, a whle has passed. The visa has come through and we have already been to Australia to activate it (we arrived back in Poland 2 weeks ago). We spent a week in Sydney and 2 weeks on the sunshine coast, as that was one of the places we were taking into account to move to. Sunshien coast? We loved it! Spent our time in Coolum and drove around the whole area. Weatherwise we really enjoyed it, but I have been frightened off by quite a few pqople about job prospectives in that part of Queensland - in short - its difficult to land a job in an area with a popullation of under 350thou. We were taking into account 2 other places - Perth and Adelaide, allthough we didnt get a chance to visit either of them. What is Adelaide like when it comes to work? Im involved in the sports industry. Im a tennis coach with 16yrs of on court experience, and over here I run my own small one-on-one gym for personal trainings. My wife could work either as office work or retail, so maybe with work it wouldnt be an issue? So how is Adelaide with employment? Is there a crisis at the moment? Also, and probabbly most important, how is it with general life standard. is it expensive? And, is it safe? Im sorry for the last question, which might sound daft, but we have two small kids (7 and 3,5) and we are looking for a place whichcan provide us with a safe environment for family living. I have been reading up about Perth and on one of the forums my jaw dropped after I read about safety in Perth - car jackings, drugs, robberies etc. Of course, some of these stories might have been blown out of proportion (as media often does this for better reading purposes), but I thought I would ask anyway. Also, cost of living. Home rentals etc? On the sunshine coast to rent a home the cost would be around 350 AUS per week. Perth probably similar. Is it more cheaper in Adelaide? I have heard that yes, Adelaide is one of the most affordable cities to live in, but I dont know if that comes hand i hand with lower wages? So I thought it would be worth to dish my question out here.. Any information or advice very kindly seen Woj.
  7. Hi! I wrote before but in the meantime have found some more info, which only confirmed to me that I may be pretty far from knowing all of my options. In brief: I am an aussie citizen with an aussie passport. My wife and I have been married for nearly 8 years, we have two small kids which are eligable for citizenship by descent (so its only paperwork to get their passports ready). My wiofe on the other hand has only her polsih passport. We plan to move back to Australia (she has never been) in 1 year. Tickets one way, we will live there, work there and blend in with the community and after 1-2 years see how life is treating us there. If we decide that its better here than we come back (this is mostly a condition that I understand, as my wife is terrified of the move and to lose what we have here). Anyway, from what I have been reading, a few weeks ago I thought that THE ONLY option we had was: - the Partner (provisional) Visa (subclass 309) and partner (migrant) visa (subclass 100) - (I understand that the first 309 is for the first 2yrs, and then after 2 yrs I can apply for the 100 which will give permanent residence? The cost of this visa is a whopping 7000AUS which completely blew me off my seat. Now I see there is a second option: - Partner Visa (subclass 820 and 801). From what I know the only differences between the two is that on the first one (subclass 309 and 100) you have to be outside Australia when you apply and when you receive the visa, and the second visa (subclass 820 and 801) you can be in Australia? Are those teh ONLY TWO options that I have? I'll be straight to the point, that the cost of the visa just blew me away and seeing as in Poland 7000 AUS is probably about how much you can put away in a year, I am seeking for any pother possibilities. Another important factor is that my wife must be able to work legally. I know my second half quite well and know, that she cannot sit on her behind for too log and not do anything. We want to avid going to the unemployment office and would rather try and find work as soon as possible, that is why my wife would need a visa on which she can work on without a problem. Any informatuion kindly appreciated. Maybe somebody has been through a similar situation?? All the best, Woj.

    G'day!

Diane, thanks so much for the link! One side of the coin is that I was thinking that the big move would be a chance to try something new, second side is that coaching is something that I have been doing for the past 15 years (even flew in as assistant coach with our polish wheelchair player for her to take part in the Australia Open in 2009) so its something I have pretty vast experience in, so maybe best to do what I have the most qualifications for All in all, thanks again for the link and I will definately be writing to them Have a great day!
  9. Actually I think this article is very relavent. We plan to pack our bags, bring our kids and head down to Australia in a year, so we have 12 months to do as much research as possible and find which area would be best for us, and that of course means which area would be best job wise for us. Wether the article is biased or not, the reader will make his own opinion (every article in some way is biased as the author portrays his opinion), but the more info is available, the bigger chance somebidy has to gain as much information as possible and make the right decision regarding their big move. A forum is not a place where you present only the good aspects regarding something (as Adelaide from what I have read does have a lot of great sides to it), but also the worse aspects as well. Its simply a place where you can get as much info as possible - good and bad.

    G'day!

Hi again! First of all, sorry for reposting twice I think it was. Posted but couldnt find my message, so I thought something went wriong and posted again. BTW, why arent my posts visible as soon as I reply to the thread? I have my aussie passport, only need to renew it. 7 grand for my wifes visa? Man oh man, not a walk in the park. I have allready started the process and as soon as it comes through, we will be ready to fly out (thinking second half of next year). My jobs, well, that is a tuff one. I have completed the Wroclaw Academy of physical Education. For the past 15 years I have worked as a tennis coach leading international clients here in Wroclaw (so basically teaching tennis in english to all the expats here in Wroclaw, and there are more and more internationals here) Have also worked as manager of a sports complex for 3,5 years (for the same company that owns the tennis centre where I work - so have been involved with them for 10years + ), so the experience is there, but I have no idea how that experience will be seen and will it be recognized in Oz. Im not scared of work, always have new ideas and not frightened to get my hands dirty, so am prepared to at the start work basically anywhere. The plan is to not be out of home for 12 hrs per day, as I simply put my family as nr 1 on the list. So we will see if that will work out. Initially thought to continue with the private tennis lessons, but sometimes I think it would be a good time to start siomethuing completely new and an occasion to take a break from the tennis raquet. Recently though of even finding out a little about the possibilities of import to Australia (as there is a big proce differece between things here in PL and in Oz - but thats just a thought that sometimes pops into my mind). Have been working practically freelance and been my own boss since 2000 and would be great to try and keep that going, but like I said, not scared of any work that will halp us start off as. Perfectly understand that when u start from scratch, it means, that you start from scratch..

    G'day!

Hi! Actually our path isnt as complicated. I lived in Australia from age 6 - 18, so therefore have citizenship. Automatically my kids can apply for citizenship as well (just a formality), and my wife can apply for the partner visa. When I was young, I lived in Sydney but now, but because of the husstle and busstle that we want to avoid, and also the astronomical real estate prices, Sydney will not be our destination. Up until a few days ago we were taking into account Perth or the Sunshine Coast (great weather and way cheaper than Sydney), but I have been told that the sunshine coast is not that boomig when it comes to employment. Perth on the other hand from what I have read (also have a couple of friend there) is a great place, but then again because of the mining industry everything is pretty expensive there.. ..THEN!...two days ago we had friends over who suggested Newcastle or Adelaide. I have never really took Adelaide into account, because...i dont know, I just didnt I started reading up on it, went thru some galleries and phiotos and it seems like a place just right. We're not looking for a party life, been there, done that. We have two small kids and we appreciate the calm and easy going life. We want nice weather, nice people, hassle free, traffic jam-free and most importantly - we are looking for a place that will not run us over financially.. Thats whay I wrote before, that Adelaide seems like a possibility. We have a year to do as much research as we can, as with two small kids we dont want to be flying around Australia every two months looking for our place, we hope to pretty much hit spot on with the first flight
