  1. Hi Everyone, we've just moved into Mawson Lakes with our 17 year old son and would like to help our son settle into the area. Are there any teenagers in the area that could meet up with our son to show him round and make some friends?
  2. Hi - I would love to watch the Scottish cup final between Rangers and Hibs on Saturday. I'm staying in the North of the city and I'm looking for somewhere that may be showing the game live on TV? Thanks
  3. Thanks everyone for your help - I've secured a rental until November in Hewett
  4. Hi - I'm looking for a 6 month rental in East Gawler or Hewitt (furnished or unfurnished) with 3 bedrooms starting early May. Can anyone help? Thanks
  5. Hi Sam - we arrived a week ago and we're living up in the Barossa valley which is an hours drive to the centre. We felt the same when we first arrived and only by getting out and about, stopping and walking about the lovely areas (including the city and Henley beach) have we slowly started to find our way about. We think it will take time to settle into the communities and will join as many local clubs as we can!!
  6. Thanks everyone - looks like we'll head out and see what we find!! If anyone is in the area next week it would be good to catch up so my son can spend time without us oldies!!
  7. Hi everyone - we're in Tanunda for another week and wondered if there are any 16 or 17yo in the area to show my son Mathew some of the local activities?
  8. Thanks for the advice - jackets and fleeces now packed!!! Final day packing and off to Glasgow airport on Sunday morning (UK) time. Hope we can meet up with ex Poms on this forum once we arrive to make friends and help us settle into our new life....
  9. The weather can't be any worse than Scotland - 6 degrees and very wet!!! Hope the sun shines and from what I can see on the forecast it will be a lot warmer. T-shirts and sun cream for us ........
  10. Thanks for your advice - my son loves sports, golf, fishing and the gym so it sounds like a great location to meet teenagers his age. The places to eat and drink will keep us occupied and we plan to drive round the area looking at what this part of the world offers for a permanent house. We're so looking forward to arriving!!
  11. Hi everyone - just a quick post to confirm we're arriving on 4th April, me, wife and 17yo son. We'll be staying in Tanunda as my job is in the barossa valley. My wife and son are staying for 2 weeks then returning to UK for my son to finish high school before returning mid-June. Hope to catch up soon for some advice on how my 17yo son can make teenage friends and both of us can meet families in a similar situation, settle into this area, life if Adelaide and find the best places to visit/eat.......so many questions!!!
  12. Thanks again everyone - it's good to see us Poms keep a sense of humour!! The weeks intensive UK course is to give my son a head start on driving and even if he passes or fails at he end of the week at least he will have an appreciation of driving safely so when we come over he will use what he's learned when training with an approved instructor on the Adelaide roads - I agree his and others safety on the roads is the most important thing - we've been there with his elder brother who we restricted in the UK until he gained more experience after passing his test. Reading what's written above, I've been driving over 30 years and I may need to refresh... Beep! Beep!
  13. Thanks everyone for your comments - think I'll look into an intensive weeks course in UK to try and pass his test before he arrives in June. If he needs a few lessons to familiarise on roads when in Adelaide I'll arrange when we get there. So many things to arrange before we arrive - exciting!!!
  14. My 17 year old son has a provisional license and will be in Adelaide in June. He's not started any driving lessons yet and I was looking for advice on where best he should try and pass his driving test - should he book block driving lessons in the UK before leaving or hold off until we arrive in Adelaide?
