  1. Morning All. I'm just going through the Citizenship process and wondered if anybody had any experience with Holdfast Bay Council regarding timeframes for the ceremony. I already have a date for the test (very soon!!!). Many thanks in advance :-)
  2. Mazza I'm sure you've made your decision by now as to whether to make the move but thought I would still reply. I moved to Adelaide a little over 2 years ago on my own and I'm in my 30s. I didn't have any family or friends in SA so you could say it really was a 'big step'. I've made some good friends and have some great work friends. If you are determined enough and use the social networks to meet new people then it is possible ;-) Whatever decision you have made I hope you are happy.
  3. Hi everyone! I'm down in Glenelg as well and in my 30s. Been in SA for 2 years now and am still enjoying the lifestyle :jiggy:Can be difficult to find new friends sometimes so would be good to meet up with anybody around and about.
  4. Hi Allan from another 'newbie'. I arrived in Adelaide (city) a week ago with working visa in hand! Not shy to admit that there have been seconds when I have thought 'what am I doing?' but have pushed past them and can with some relief say that I found a room to rent near Tea Tree Plaza so now feeling a little more settled. The job hunt now grows :-) Well what can I say to Liverpool - yes I'm a trained Liverpool fan via my friend and her family. Good taste. Have you found work yet or did you come out with a job arranged? Jules
  5. Sounds great, will hopefully come along on 1 April. Look forward to it. J
  6. Hi all, I'm Julie a 30 something singleton from Surrey who arrived in March 2012. On my own looking to meet anybody who has a sense of humour and is willing to share their experiences of moving to the Adelaide area.

  7. Hi Paula/Shane Must just say it's nice to see somebody in the same field of work. I am a qualified Senior Social Worker and I'm due to depart for SA next month. Unfortunately due to my qualification Australia classes me as a Welfare Worker so the role variety may change for me slightly. From my experience if you have the right social worker qualification to register out there and particularly the child protection experience you are away :-) I was recommended Sugarman International Group regarding employment from an ex-colleague already working out there. Good luck with the move. Julie
  8. Hi Emma I appreciate your original post was some months back but I am making preparations to move to SA in March 2012 with a State Sponsored Visa as a Welfare Worker. I am a Senior Practitioner (Social Worker) of 7+ years and 17 years Government working experience. I just wanted to check whether you would consider looking at my resume in case you have any vacancies that may be suitable now or in the near future? Would also be open to any suggestions or recommendations as well. Thanks in advance. Julie
  9. Hi I'm relieved to find somewhere where I can ask others questions :-). I've been assessed by AASW but don't meet the requirements for a Social Worker but I do as a Welfare Worker and am therefore considering the sponsorship visa. What is the current employment demand like for jobs in the Welfare Worker fields? At the moment I'm torn between SA or Queensland. Any advice is welcome. Thanks! Julie
