  1. I think you have your terms mixed up- the 103 is not an Aged visa- you can apply offshore for the 103 if not 'aged' but no bridging visa is attached. If you qualify for the Aged version , you can apply onshore in Australia & get a Bridging Visa granted. This is the 804 visa. however this visa may not be open for long, so apply soonest if this is your chosen option.
  2. It's amazing how the processing times change year on year! However if they have applied from the UK this should be the maximum wait really- maybe it wouldn't hurt for them to email & make a general enquiry as to when they might be asked to do their medicals/police checks? They might even be lucky enough to get a positive response !
  3. If you give a few more details, it might be possible for people here to help a bit more...for instance what are the circumstances of her being left behind- is she under 18 or over 18 - dependent on you financially or not- in a relationship / job etc. If she is an independent adult for instance, she will need to check whether she has working skills that are needed in Aus- she can check this through the SOL or CSOL lists. Start her at http://www.immi.gov.au/skills/skillselect . If aged between 18 & 31 she could at least get a year on a Working Holiday Visa (or two if she does 88 days Specified work in the first year). There are several options according to her circumstances.
  4. aah that's a difficult one for you- speaking as a parent of an emigrated child, we have a duty to wish you well & be pleased that you're such confident & well-rounded individuals up for adventure. In practice of course it's not so easy ! There's a thread running on this very subject on the PomsinOz site; you might find it an interesting read . And rest assured she'll come around to the idea even if it takes a while- needs must. Is there a plan for her to visit you at some point? However far in the future it would give her a great trip to look forward to/save & plan for. And tell her we all get used to Skyping/Facetiming etc, they are great for keeping in touch . All the best, she's obviously going to miss you .
  5. Welcome back Gill even if you only pop in now & again- it's good to know you're recovering well x
  6. Well they (one at least) will have to have an occupation on one of the skills lists, as you maybe did? Look at http://www.immi.gov.au/skills/skillselect for all the guidance you need on skilled visas. (Ididn't know you could get a Degree in childminding - suspect the title is different but it would be work experience & a skills Assessment she'd need anyway) Check the fiance's occupation though, that might be better, but they need to be living-together partners I believe to apply together.
  7. That's brilliant news John...& great to have Confirmation of what I was told by Immi- they are currently taking only 6-7 years to process 103's & 804's Great news for you & encouragement for all those waiting

    parent visa 103

Fortunately this visa (103) seems to be being processed faster than in the past - people still quote the waiting time as 16 years...but it's nowhere near that. It's around 6/7 years, which when you consider the 143's are still taking up to 18 months or so, is not bad at all really (imho anyway ) They are currently processing 103's from 2007....so presumably that will mean you have 3/4 years to go? It'll fly by Get that sledge out!

    parent visa 103

Hey Greg- you've missed the point about the age difference.....of course people would apply onshore if they could- well certainly I would anyway! But the 804 is for "aged" applicants, & those of us who are below that age have to apply for the 103- & wait it out offshore.
  10. yes it's perfectly possible & he just needs to research the appropriate visas for them. He'll need to apply for a Partner visa for her & a child visa for the little one. Start with the immi website http://www.immi.gov.,au & trawl through other threads on here ( & there are loads on PomsinOz) where you'll find lots of advice from people in the same process.
  11. I googled this & apparently you need to read the regulations of the Foreign Investment Review Board if you are not yet Permanent residents.

    Visas

Hi-I don't know the answers to this but since you haven't had a reply yet thought I would just check with you that you've read the DIAC guidelines for your application for the 489, as all the info you need will be there Go to http://www.immi.gov.au/skills/skillselect & it will also direct you to read Booklet 6.
  13. Thanks for updating John & how typical, when you've just gone on holiday! however it sounds like it won't be long now. There are several of us who have just joined the 103 queue, or rather just applied- queueing will be some time off! I won't be holding my breath for that length of time- but its going to be a bit of a trial knowing there aren't any up-to-date trackers to follow to get an idea of how processing goes. They seem thoroughly unreliable & a bit pointless really. All the best for your grant.
  14. Did you miss this ? a RMA offering you the same for free
