The rate is crap so we are no big hurry to change a load of money over but we will still need some dollars to get us going!

Should I worry about getting them changed here, is the rate a lot worse when we hit Oz? What have your experiences been? And where is the best place in Adelaide to change money?

You will get a better rate if you use a currency broker like Moneycorp, HIFX, Ozforex etc. When we came in November we only changed £10,000 over as they rate was $2.34 to £1.00, as the rest of our money was to buy a house we held it in our account at home, just changed it over last week so we could buy the house and got $2.01 to £1.00. In 6 months we lost £16,500:arghh: Guess I'm just meant to be skint

Check out the brokers web pages and it will give you and idea of what you may get

Just going through same thing as you right now - we've signed up with Moneycorp. Just about to speak to them now in fact. We will be changing some money over now and then probably some in a few months time - just hope we get a better rate, but it's all guess work - none of us has a crystal ball.

I see you're also going on the 20th May - where you flying from and which part of Adelaide are you headed - we're flying out of Heathrow (9.30pm ish) via Singapore and are initially in OAA in Christie Downs.

Defo use a broker as you will get a higher rate than banks who will give you the tourist rate which is far lower.

As said, Hyfx, Ozforex and Moneycorp are the big ones.

When you are ready ring each one up for their rate at the time as they may vary slightly. But slightly on several thousand can add up to a lot of $$$$

Personally we ended up using Hifx every time.
