Medicals on medication

Hi, we have a while yet until our agent tells us to have our medicals. I was wondering if anyone has had a medical while being on medication for anxiety/panic attacks, i am worried that there may be a problem if i still am, if there is then i would rather try cutting down the meds now and being off them by the time i have my medical, even if the attacks get worse for a while, then i can get treatment again after we have visas.

Thanks

Hi Shona,

I am sorry that I am unable to advise on this matter but am sure that panic attacks and other related problems are very common. I am sure you are not alone and hope that someone who has been in the same situation will be able to help you.

Personally I think they are looking for more serious illness and a family history of illness too. Even if you stop taking your medication (if I remember correctly) you will probably have to put it on the forms anyway.

If you have no luck on this forum maybe you could try the PIO forum. Good luck and try not to worry, I am sure it will be fine and you will be able to carry on as normal.

We were in a similar position (I won't go into details), we were honest with the Doctor who did the medical and because we manage to hold down a job, have a 'normal' life, our medicals were approved. I think they are only concerned if you've been out of work for a long period of time because of the condition and in this case, our Doctor advised that they ask for further info.

I hope that helps and we wish you luck in your application!

I to have been wondering if I'm going to come up against any problems when we go for medicals as I take medication for high blood pressure. If anyone has had a situatuation like this, how did you get on?

Hi there,

Sorry i can't help directly, however myself and OH went for our medicals and were both so nervous. I am on medication for Epilepsy and OH for bad back. We both lead normal lives, have both worked all our lives and our conditions have never affected our day to day living.

The doctor was fabulous and made us feel at ease even joked about our conditions, I believe all they are looking for is the above. We took letters from employers stating this and specialist letters.

We are of down under in Jan:)

I was unsure whether to put certain things down but am glad i was honest and aslong as you are positive and can back everything up to support your application i am sure you will be fine. Good luck!!!

Hi

I and my wife are taking BP tablets. She is also taking tablet for thyroid problem. We passed our medical without any problem. yes the doctor asked for my blood test that I just did a week before as part of routine test from my GP. The reading for our BP in the medical were normal, and also the test.

I think as long as you told them about any health related matters, and it won't cost arms and legs for the Australian government when you moved there, it wouldn't be a problem to pass the medical.

regards
