Well to say all of the above just about sums it up for us too. However, we came to the decision after having another child 12 yrs after the last one, and thought then, ' let's do something completely different ' and to be honest it was all hubby's idea after he came back from the bank one day and mentioned the woman behind the counter said that oz was looking for tradies, and from there we haven't looked back. Got visa and did the reccie which just confirmed to us that Adelaide was the place for us, it's that feeling you get when you go house hunting, you know instantly it's your next home. Just need to sell the house and fulfill our dreams.
Actually though, any "discussion" between me and my Dad tends to get heated as we're both control freaks and neither will admit we're wrong!
My Dad said that no-one would move out to the other side of the world unless they already have a job lined up (as my OH did) - or if they have been a failure in the UK! I told him he was wrong (having spent the odd hour or two on this forum or similar over the past five years so feeling I was speaking from slightly more of a position of knowledge than he was).
He's actually very supportive of us being here and feels the UK is going to hell in a handbasket (what can I say? Telegraph-reader!) so says we definitely made the right move.
Sometimes the grass will appear greener on the other side because it has been fertilised by bull****
Well we had a good plastering business in the UK, and came here with no jobs, its all part of the adventure!
I think you probably won this discussion, but then dads know best!!!
No wonder it got heated, how can you be a failure, move and have a better life here?
Ahh well i could go on (you know how we came), but it's your argument, get the air con fixed ASAP LOL
I'm moving out there in March 2010 and have been thinking of moving to OZ for a few years now but only becoming a reality now due to sponsored migration via SAPOL making the move easier. My reasons for wanting to move are mainly cause i am sick and tired of the UK and find myself getting stressed and annoyed on a daily basis and hate how crowded we are, also, whilst i'm still young free and single i figure it's now a great time and place to go and and eventually ( hopefully) raise a family in the future!
It will be great to keep up with your progress and it hopefully might help others.
One of our previous guests has nearly finished the induction at the SAPOL college - he says doing firearms/vehicle stop training was not funny in 40c!
As long as you are looking forward as well - not just escaping
No i'm Definately not Escaping, nothing to escape from just figured now is the perfect time for me to go for it! To be honest I've always been an adventurous type and like to challenge myself, it's how i became a police officer in the first place. I needed the challenge. I love my job but figure there is a lot more to life than working all the hours god sends just to make ends meet and when do have a little time off there is nothing to really do without it costing the earth. Moving over there with SAPOL will let me still do the job i love but also give me a much better lifestyle as well so i can have a more balanced life in general. Plus the weather is a huge bonus.
I did a reccie in Adelaide in September and loved the place ( even though it was the wettest month in 5 years apparently) which just made my decision to move even easier.
I am now really looking forward to getting out there and meeting some of you guys from this forum and hopefully making some nice new friends!!!
Keep your fingers crossed that i can get my house sale and visa through in time now.......Oh the stress!
