We lived in a small village and to be honest were almost shielded from the daily moans of England but then we still had to leave there and go to work. I think the UK is a wonderful place but to be honest neither of us felt like it was ours. We now live somewhere that we equally love but somewhere we feel we belong.
Some other reasons were:
Violent Crumble, Carlton Draught and West End!
I put other reason - More quality time with Family
Working all the time in UK (7days) -
new career in Oz Mon-Fri only (weekend with family)
A number of reasons:
1. I lived abroad as a child, and wanted to live outside the UK. I had thought UAE as I really loved my life there as a teen.
2. The UK had nothing to offer my children and we financially could not see a way to help our children in the future as with all the pension changes it was looking increasingly like we'd be working longer and longer. We want to see our grandchildren and buy all the stupid things they won't. We wanted a better life for our children, and they were not going to get one in the UK.
3. We had no real reason to stay. That sounds awful, but if our family come to see us, great. If our friends do, fab. But we'll go and see them regardless. The only person we stayed for was my dad, but he knew as we all did that his health was so bad that he would never be allowed to get on a plane, much less travel here. So we waited.
4. and finally, OH came here on holiday when he was 20. I won't tell you what he got up to, because he won't tell me! Needless to say I doubt it was good although probably brilliant when you are 20. He thought it was a good place for us to raise our family. So that was it. We retrained as teachers to get here.
Was it worth it? It didn't feel that way at the start and at times, especially this year, I was def sure it wasn't but my children have a life here I could never give them in the UK. Swimming on a reef fo a school assignment for example. Having birthdays on the beach before a slepover when they are 17, rather than getting drunk and going out when they were 15 in the UK. What a contrast!
Overall, it was the best decision we have made. And I would go back and do it all exactly the same.
